The University of the Fraser Valley Student Union Society (SUS) is a BC Not-For-Profit Society representing and serving UFV students. The Society manages the Student Union Building and facilitates services such as the UFV U-Pass, food services, and the student health and dental plan. SUS also supports an active community by organizing events and providing wellness and developmental programming. As the official representative body of UFV students, our mission is to be an inclusive community that provides high-quality, accessible programs and services. We are the unified voice advocating on behalf of student interests in the UFV community, ensuring each student has opportunities to thrive.
Volunteer Position Overview

Are you looking for a way to get involved on campus, meet new people, and gain valuable experience? The Student Union Society (SUS) is recruiting enthusiastic volunteers to support our Early Eats program, a hot buffet initiative aimed at fueling students' minds with nutritious food and reducing food insecurity on campus.

As a volunteer, you'll work alongside a Red Seal-certified Chef and trained food service staff in our brand-new commercial kitchen. Your responsibilities will include setting up, cleaning up, managing supplies, serving students, and maintaining a smooth operation of the breakfast buffet.

This is a great opportunity to enhance your leadership skills, meet new friends, and make a meaningful impact-all while having a lot of fun!

Compensation
This is a volunteer role. However, as a thank you for your time, you can enjoy a hot breakfast buffet after your shift. The following will also be available, after completing the following:

  • Four (4)+ Volunteer Hours
    • Invitation to a breakfast sit down with the SUS Team, Executives and fellow volunteers with a complimentary beverage from Fairgrounds on the last day of service.
  • Eight (8) + Volunteer Hours
    • Invitation to a breakfast sit down with the SUS Team, Executives and fellow volunteers with a complimentary beverage from Fairgrounds on the last day of service.
    • Letter of Recommendation from SUS
  • Twelve (12) + Volunteer Hours
    • Invitation to a breakfast sit down with the SUS Team, Executives and fellow volunteers with a complimentary beverage from Fairgrounds on the last day of service
    • Letter of Recommendation from SUS
    • Food Safe Level One Certificate

Key Volunteer Responsibilities

  • Set-Up: Help prepare the breakfast area by setting up tables, food stations, and supplies (ability to lift up to 25lbs is required).
  • Clean-Up: Assist with cleaning during and after the event, assist our Red Seal Chef in cleaning dishes when requested and ensuring the space is tidy.
  • Supply Management: Monitor inventory of items like condiments, cutlery, and take-out containers.
  • Line Control: Manage student queues, welcome attendees, and ensure an orderly flow using a click counter.
  • Communication: Coordinate with staff to manage appropriate levels of food and ensure smooth service.
  • Support Inclusivity: Promote a welcoming environment in line with SUS values of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.

  1. Enthusiastic and energetic personality with a desire to engage with fellow students
  2. Must be a current UFV student enrolled in at least one Fall 2026 course
  3. Commitment to SUS's values of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI)
  4. Organized, reliable, and available on all Early Eats dates listed above


Term of Employment:

This is a Fall 2026 volunteer position, with the opportunity to continue into Winter 2027.
