Job description

Pharmacy Lead Technician

The purpose of this position is to help achieve cost effective, results oriented and customer focus manner pharmaceutical services by performing these duties in a highly confidential manner, in accordance with the mission, values and behaviors of Insight Chicago Pharmacy. The pharmacy lead technician, under the supervision of a Registered Pharmacist shall prepare medications, order, receive and maintain a perpetual inventory (maintains and established PAR levels). These duties are to be performed in a highly confidential manner, in accordance with the mission, values and behaviors of Insight Chicago Hospital. Employees are further expected to provide a high quality of care, service, and kindness toward all patients, staff, physicians, volunteers and guests.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists the Registered Pharmacist in providing and dispensing and other health care products.
  • Properly package and arrange medication order delivery after a Registered Pharmacist's final check of the patient's medication order.
  • Monitor inventory levels of FDA-approved medication.
  • Notifies appropriate individuals when additional supplies need to be ordered.
  • Transfers the necessary drug supplies from the pharmacy.
  • Monitors expiration dating and removes outdated medications.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of patient/client information at all times. (Follow HIPAA guidelines)
  • Disposes of material in appropriate containers and in an appropriate manner
  • The ability to reproduce labels or any essential task in order to properly perform their daily functions
  • Assist the department with other assignments as needed.

Job Specifications

A. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge: Experience, education, licensure(s), specialized certification(s).
  • Skills: Analytical, interpersonal.
  • Abilities: Physical, mental (specify amount and duration).

Knowledge:

  • High school graduate or equivalent education.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician
  • Previous hospital pharmacy experience desirable.
  • Proficient organizational, communication, and basic computer skills.
  • Pharmacy Technicians must be registered with the State

Skills:

Repetitive use of hands and fingers (i.e., use of computer keyboard) and labeling containers.

Normal range of hearing and vision to perform work and communicate.

Verbal and written communication.

Extended periods of standing and walking v Typing skills of 30 WPM.

Abilities:

Extended periods of standing and walking.
