Job description

Position Title
Hospice Volunteer CoordinatorOlathe Medical Pavilion DPosition Summary / Career Interest:The Volunteer Coordinator coordinates all volunteer services for the Hospice Service. This role is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive volunteer program that supports patients, families, and staff. The coordinator recruits, trains, schedules, and supervises volunteers and ensures compliance with regulatory standards. The position fosters community partnerships, enhances volunteer engagement and retention, and promotes the hospice philosophy of care.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

  • Develop and implement volunteer recruitment strategies through marketing efforts, community outreach, networking, and partnerships.
  • Screens, interviews, selects and trains volunteers; ensures ongoing competency.
  • Coordinates volunteer assignments and schedules across all hospice locations of care.
  • Leads volunteer meetings, in-services, and educational activities.
  • Maintains policies, procedures, and training materials in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to support patient and family needs.
  • Participates in organizational initiatives as required.
  • Serves as a client-facing representative of hospice services and the health system within the community.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with community organizations, schools, faith-based groups, and local partners to promote hospice services and volunteer opportunities.
  • Supports marketing and outreach efforts, including events, presentations, and public education to increase awareness of hospice services while representing the overall health system.
  • Supervises, supports, and evaluates volunteer performance to promote engagement and retention.
  • Plans and implements volunteer events and recognition initiatives.
  • Maintains accurate records, statistics, documentation, and program reporting.
  • Maintains communication with volunteers, staff, patients, and families.
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Social Work, Teaching, Communications, Human Services, Public Relations, or related healthcare field OR five years of related experience in volunteer coordination, healthcare non-profit, or program management setting


Preferred Education and Experience

  • 2 or more years volunteer leadership experience OR
  • 2 or more years hospice, healthcare, or nonprofit environment experience OR
  • 2 or more years community outreach and volunteer engagement strategies experience OR
  • 2 or more years of event or project planning experience


Required Licensure and Certification

  • KDADS background check upon hire
  • Healthcare license required by discipline if applicable
  • Valid, unrestricted driver's license, Kansas Class C or equivalent. MVR results must be in compliance with Health System Safe Driving Program Policy. Candidate must have access to reliable, personal transportation. Vehicle must carry insurance with at least the minimum automobile liability insurance levels required by the state(s) of operation.


Preferred Licensure and Certification

  • Certified in Volunteer Administration (CVA) - Council for Certification in Voluntary Administration (CCVA)
