Job description

Job Title: Fire Watchman

Job Description

The Fire Watchman monitors welding activities on the exterior structural framework of a building in Manhattan and helps ensure a safe work environment by identifying and responding to potential fire hazards during construction operations.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor welding operations on the exterior structural framework of the building to ensure safety at all times.
  • Maintain a continuous fire watch in areas where hot work is being performed, including welding and related construction activities.
  • Identify potential fire hazards around welding and construction zones and take appropriate steps to mitigate risks.
  • Ensure that fire safety procedures and site-specific safety protocols are followed during all welding activities.
  • Keep fire safety equipment readily accessible and report any damaged or missing equipment to site supervision.
  • Communicate promptly with site personnel if unsafe conditions or fire risks are observed.
  • Follow all regulatory and site safety requirements related to fire watch duties, including proper documentation when required.
  • Coordinate with construction and welding teams to stay informed about planned hot work and areas requiring fire watch coverage.

Essential Skills

  • Valid F60 certification for fire watch duties.
  • OSHA 30 certification demonstrating knowledge of construction safety standards.
  • Site Safety Training (SST) certification as required for construction sites.
  • Experience working in construction environments, particularly around welding and structural work.
  • Understanding of fire watch procedures and hot work safety requirements.
  • Ability to remain alert and attentive for extended periods while monitoring welding activities.
  • Strong awareness of safety practices in outdoor construction settings.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Familiarity with structural welding processes and associated fire risks.
  • Comfort working on exterior building frameworks and around active construction crews.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with welders, supervisors, and other site personnel regarding safety concerns.
  • Reliability and punctuality in reporting to assigned shifts and designated work areas.
  • G60 Certification.
