Job description

Position Summary:
The Mentorship Volunteer provides guidance and support as an industry-aligned professional mentor to one or more adult participants in Goodwill-Easter Seals Minnesota (GESMN) GESMN's services and programs.
Schedule & Time Commitment
  • Once approved to volunteer, Mentorship Volunteers self-schedule their shifts based on organizational need and volunteer preference.
  • Shifts span 2-4 hours depending on scheduling preferences.

Volunteer Responsibilities:
Mentoring
  • Model professional behavior with effective communication, leadership, and problem-solving to adult mentees.
  • Schedule weekly sessions with mentee(s), helping to set and achieve realistic, measurable goals.
  • Share knowledge and skills that are considerate of the mentee's goals.
  • Maintain healthy boundaries and serve as a role model for integrity and work ethic.
  • Help mentees navigate challenges and make informed decisions.
  • Share insights from own experiences to offer perspective.
  • Recommend resources like books, courses, or tools when appropriate.
  • Provide constructive feedback to mentees by helping identify areas for improvement.
  • Provide industry-specific support to mentees and other adult participants of GESMN services and programs in group settings through presentations and/or guest lectures in GESMN training programs, or hosting group visits/tours on-site at place of employment.

Other Duties
  • Responsible for being familiar with and adhering to GESMN's code of ethics, volunteer policies, and role-specific safety procedures set forth by Human Resources and GESMN executive team.

About You - Knowledge & Skills:
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Understand how to create welcoming experiences for people of varying backgrounds and experience levels, including justice-impacted individuals and their families.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.
  • Welcome orientation required either in-person or virtual before first shift.
  • Training required in-person and virtual before first shift.
