Job description

Position Description: The Volunteer Coordinator at Lighthouse Mission Ministries (LMM) will work
closely with the Director of Community Engagement and other department heads to develop and
cultivate LMM's volunteer program. Primary duties include volunteer onboarding, placement, training,
and development, as well as coordinating volunteers for group and holiday events. This role balances
creating an excellent volunteer experience with addressing departmental and organizational needs
effectively. This role requires administrative excellence, clear communication skills, creativity,
initiative, and a genuine heart for people!
Compensation to Include: Washington Paid Sick Leave, 403(b) contribution, Employee Assistance
Program, bonus pay for staff who spend holidays with residents, ongoing training, and professional
development.
Responsibilities:
Volunteer Management and Appreciation
• Coordinate and oversee all volunteer procedures, including applications, screening interviews,
background checks, and badge creation.
• Develop and implement sustainable handoff plans for volunteers to transition into other ministry
areas (e.g., Agape, Drop-In Center, barista training).
• Manage volunteer services, including orientation, debriefing, appreciation events, and
placements.
• Maintain accurate documentation of volunteer hours.
• Maintain and scale LMM's volunteer appreciation system, including thank you cards, events, and
swag distribution.
• Coordinate volunteer coverage for programming and organizational events.
Community Engagement & Outreach
• Identify, coordinate, and participate in community outreach events such as internship fairs,
church engagement events, and speaking opportunities to recruit volunteers, interns, and
community partners as needed.
• Direct donations and volunteer-specific inquiries to appropriate leadership as needed.
Guidelines, Coordination, & Administration
• Collaborate with the Director of Community Engagement to assist with projects and initiatives as
requested and approved.
• Follow all relevant Lighthouse Mission Ministries (LMM) policies and procedures.
Leadership & Culture
• Model an incarnational, relational approach to sharing the Gospel with volunteers, donors, staff,
and guests experiencing homelessness.
• Foster transparent, supportive, and grace-based relationships among staff and volunteers,
modeling LMM's grace-based accountability philosophy.
• Maintain a positive, professional, and Christ-centered attitude in all community and
organizational interactions.
• Participate in prayer and group devotionals.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Organizational Relationships:
• Reports directly to the Director of Community Engagement
• Works alongside all Department Teams, volunteers, residents, and interns.
• Represents LMM to supporters, volunteers, and the general public.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a combination of education, life, and work experience
that demonstrates the ability to fulfill all aspects of the job description.
• A passion for community engagement and volunteerism! Event planning
experience preferred.
• Refined organizational skills (data entry, ability to learn new software) and a
keen attention to detail.
• Effective interpersonal communication skills for communication with co-workers, supporters,
and the public.
• A passion for serving Jesus and making the Gospel known through mercy ministry. The
successful candidate will have an active church/prayer life and be in agreement with the
Lighthouse Mission's Statement of Faith and Life and Personal Covenant.
• Knowledge of and preferably experience with issues of homelessness, poverty, addiction,
domestic violence and recovery.
• Ability to report as regularly scheduled to work sites, including working outside of typical
business hours as needed for special events and meetings.
• Ability to successfully pass pre-employment drug and criminal background screenings.
Physical Demands and Environmental Conditions:
• Medium to heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs) as needed to assist with donations and/or
special events.
• 60% sitting; 20% standing; 20% walking
• Possible exposure to a variety of illnesses
• Both inside and outside activities regardless of weather
