Job Title: Machinist

Job Description

This role focuses on operating CNC mills, lathes, and grinders to manufacture precision parts that meet exacting customer specifications and production standards in a job shop environment where individual parts may take days to complete.

Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC mills, lathes, and grinders to produce precision components according to engineering drawings and customer specifications.
  • Set up CNC machines, including installing and adjusting tooling, fixtures, and workholding devices for each job.
  • Perform tooling changes and changeovers efficiently to support varying part requirements and job shop workflows.
  • Complete program edits at the machine using G and M codes to optimize performance and ensure parts meet tolerance requirements.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings to determine machining operations, dimensions, and tolerances.
  • Use micrometers, calipers, gauges, and other precision measuring tools to inspect parts and verify adherence to tight tolerances of +/- 0.001 inches.
  • Maintain consistent quality standards by monitoring machine operation, making adjustments, and performing in-process inspections.
  • Handle and move materials and workpieces, including lifting up to 50 pounds safely as part of daily machining activities.
  • Work within a job shop environment, focusing on complex, low-volume parts that may require extended machining times rather than high-volume production.
  • Collaborate with team members in a flexible and growth-oriented environment to solve machining challenges and improve processes.
  • Follow established safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety footwear and eyewear.
  • Support voluntary overtime opportunities on weekends as needed to meet customer demand and project timelines.

Essential Skills

  • At least 1 year of CNC machining experience in a manufacturing or job shop setting.
  • Hands-on experience setting up CNC machines, including tooling installation and adjustments.
  • Ability to perform program edits using G and M codes directly at the machine control.
  • Proficiency in using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings accurately.
  • Job shop machining experience, working on complex parts that may take days to complete rather than high-volume production runs.
  • Capability to hold and maintain tight tolerances of +/- 0.001 inches on machined parts.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely as part of daily job duties.
  • Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with machining processes involving mills, lathes, grinders, and drill presses.
  • Understanding of machine setup and changeover procedures in a machining environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with MasterCAM programming software.
  • Experience with SolidWorks for reviewing or working with CAD models.
  • experience operating both mill and lathe machines, with versatility across different equipment.
  • Familiarity with Haas CNC machines and their controls.
  • Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) for interpreting complex prints.
  • Experience using grinders and grinding machines for precision finishing operations.
  • Comfort working on 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift, with shift differentials available for 2nd and 3rd shifts.
  • Openness to voluntary overtime on weekends when business needs arise.
  • Interest in contributing to a collaborative team in a growth-stage environment.

Why Work Here?

Employees benefit from a strong total rewards package that supports long-term financial security and personal well-being. The organization offers a 401(k) retirement plan with company match, comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, and company-paid short-term, long-term, and life insurance. Team members enjoy 10 paid holidays, plus vacation and sick time, along with practical support such as safety shoe and eyewear allowances. The culture emphasizes collaboration, flexibility, and growth, providing opportunities to develop skills and advance within a supportive manufacturing environment.

Work Environment

The role is based in a climate-controlled manufacturing environment designed for comfort and consistent machining conditions. Work is performed on CNC mills, lathes, grinders, drill presses, and related equipment, including Haas machines and other precision tools. Multiple shifts are available: 1st shift (7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.), 2nd shift (3:30 p.m.–11:00 p.m.) with a 15% shift differential, and 3rd shift (11:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.) with a 10% shift differential.
