Job description

State Street Academy is hiring a full time Student Specialist for the Lineman Program to join the team. 

State Street Academy is a K-11 charter school located in Bay City, Michigan.  Our mission is to encourage students to do their personal best by offering education in a safe and caring environment.  The curriculum prepares students  to solve problems both individually and collaboratively, using critical thinking skills and cultivated through comparative, interdisplinary study.

We are seeking a dependable, energetic, and student-focused Student Specialist to support our Lineman Program. The Student Specialist will work closely with the Lead Instructor as a paraprofessional, providing daily classroom and hands-on training support while helping maintain a safe, positive, and productive learning environment. 

This is a hands-on position that is ideal for someone who enjoys working with students, supporting instruction, and being actively involved in a technical training environment. 

Key Responsibilities 

● Assist the Lead Instructor with daily classroom activities, assignments, and hands-on instruction. 

● Provide individual and small-group support to students as needed. 

● Help supervise students throughout the school day and during hands-on training activities. 

● Reinforce classroom expectations, safety procedures, and appropriate student behavior. ● Assist with preparing, organizing, and maintaining instructional materials and equipment. ● Support hands-on activities and demonstrations within the Lineman Program. ● Help ensure students follow all safety protocols and properly use tools and equipment. ● Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and safe learning environment. ● Communicate with the Lead Instructor regarding student progress, concerns, and needs. ● Serve as a positive role model and mentor for students. 

Physical & Environmental Requirements 

  • Comfortable working in an active, hands-on training environment. 
  • Lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Stand, walk, bend, climb, and move throughout the workday as needed.
  • Work outdoors in both hot and cold weather conditions
  • Participate in hands-on activities associated with lineman training. 
  • Maintain a high level of awareness regarding student and workplace safety.

  • Dependable, responsible, and punctual. 
  • Patient and comfortable working with high school-aged students. 
  • Able to work effectively as part of a team. 
  • Comfortable providing direction and maintaining appropriate student supervision. 
  • Safety-conscious and willing to learn the skills and procedures associated with the Lineman Program. 
  • Positive, encouraging, and able to build strong relationships with students. 
  • Comfortable working in both a classroom and outdoor, hands-on environment.
