Overview

As one of the nation's leading electric transmission line construction companies, MasTec Power Delivery companies engineer and construct efficient and reliable electrical transmission, distribution, and substation & switchyard systems. The Lineman Instructor is responsible for delivering technical training and hands-on instruction to apprentice and entry-level line workers in support of MasTec Power Delivery’s safety, operational, and workforce development goals. This position develops and delivers classroom and field-based instruction on electrical transmission and distribution systems, safe work practices, and industry standards.

The Lineman Instructor ensures trainees gain the technical knowledge, safety awareness, and practical skills required to safely construct, maintain, and repair overhead and underground electrical power systems.


Responsibilities
  • Deliver classroom and field instruction covering electrical transmission and distribution systems, line construction, maintenance, and repair techniques.
  • Train apprentices and new hires on proper use of tools, equipment, and climbing techniques.
  • Emphasize and enforce industry-leading safety practices, including OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
  • Demonstrate and supervise hands-on training such as pole climbing, rigging, equipment operation, grounding procedures, and energized work protocols.
  • Evaluate trainee performance through practical assessments, written tests, and field observation.
  • Provide mentoring, coaching, and feedback to support trainee development.
  • Maintain accurate training records, evaluations, and certification documentation.
  • Assist in the development and improvement of training curriculum, lesson plans, and instructional materials.
  • Support workforce development initiatives including apprenticeship programs and continuing education for line workers.
  • Coordinate with operations leadership to ensure training aligns with company standards and project requirements.

Qualifications

Required

  • Journeyman Lineman certification or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in electrical transmission and/or distribution line work.
  • Extensive knowledge of overhead and underground power line construction, maintenance, and repair.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations including OSHA and industry best practices.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring abilities.
  • Ability to teach both classroom and hands-on field training.
  • Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred).

Preferred

  • Previous experience as a trainer, instructor, or mentor in a utility or contractor environment.
  • Experience working with apprenticeship programs.
  • Certifications in training, safety instruction, or adult education.
  • Knowledge of utility standards and construction specifications.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to demonstrate climbing techniques and work at heights.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
