Volunteer Legal Interns are law students or recent graduates who work in legal settings, such as law firms, government agencies, or nonprofit organizations, without monetary compensation. They assist attorneys with legal research, drafting documents, and case preparation, gaining valuable practical experience. These positions help interns develop legal skills and build professional networks that can be beneficial for future employment opportunities.

What kinds of projects or cases does a volunteer legal intern typically work on, and how much responsibility can I expect to have?

Volunteer Legal Interns often assist with legal research, drafting memos or briefs, and supporting attorneys with case preparation. The scope of responsibility can vary by organization, but interns are usually given meaningful tasks that contribute to active cases or policy initiatives. Interns may also attend hearings, client meetings, or strategy sessions, providing valuable exposure to real-world legal work. While supervision is provided, initiative and strong research skills are highly valued, and interns are often encouraged to ask questions and seek feedback. This hands-on experience is an excellent way to develop practical legal skills and build professional connections.

Job description

Array Digital Infrastructure is a leading owner and operator of wireless communications infrastructure. In this role, you’ll be supporting a company that specializes in the acquisition, development, and management of tower assets that enable critical connectivity. You’ll gain exposure to how Array partners with major wireless carriers and infrastructure users to deliver reliable, scalable network coverage. Working at the intersection of real estate and telecommunications, you’ll see firsthand how the company optimizes its portfolio of tower sites to meet the growing demand for mobile data and next-generation connectivity.

As a Legal Intern, you will support a fast-paced, in-house legal team and gain hands-on experience across a variety of areas. Your work will include exposure to real estate matters, corporate governance, business licensing and compliance, and other projects as needed. This role is ideal if you have an interest in transactional law, real estate, and corporate practices, and are eager to learn how legal functions operate within a growing infrastructure company.

Through this internship, you will gain:

  • Exposure to in-house legal operations within a growing tower infrastructure company
  • Hands-on experience in real estate transactions and corporate compliance
  • Mentorship from experienced legal professionals
  • Insight into how the legal function supports business strategy in a dynamic, fast-evolving industry

In this internship, you are expected to work 30+ hours per week during the summer, with the opportunity to continue during the school year for 15–20 hours per week. Your work will take place during core business hours (Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.), with flexibility based on your academic schedule. Your hours may vary depending on the semester and your school commitments, and you’ll benefit from a flexible environment that prioritizes your education.

This position will be hybrid based out of our headquarters located in Chicago, IL.

  • Prioritization of Your Professional Development: TDS offers in-depth training to ensure you are continuously growing and developing your skills.
  • Focus on Ethics and a Healthy Work-Life Balance: We emphasize ethical practices and offer a business casual work environment to promote a balanced, supportive culture.

    • Reviewing leases, purchase agreements, easements, and related documents
    • Supporting due diligence for acquisitions and development projects
    • Organizing and maintaining real estate records and closing checklists
  • Support corporate and governance activities, including:
    • Preparing and maintaining corporate records and entity documentation
    • Assisting with board and committee materials
    • Conducting basic legal research on corporate matters
  • Assist with business licenses and regulatory compliance, including:
    • Tracking and renewing business licenses across jurisdictions
    • Coordinating filings with local, state, and federal agencies

Other Qualifications:

  • Strong interest in transactional work related to real estate, corporate law, and regulatory compliance
  • Excellent research, writing, and organizational skills
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks

Do you meet the Required Qualifications but are unsure if your experience aligns with the Other Qualifications? We encourage you to apply!
