DESCRIPTION

A Part-Time Japanese Language Instructor teaches Japanese courses for adults. Seeking instructors with extensive previous teaching experience at the university level or equivalent, for in-person and/or online courses.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

In addition to teaching their assigned classes, instructors are expected to:

Create their own teaching materials to supplement the course textbook, and follow the curriculum syllabus in coordination with other instructors.

Communicate with students in your classes and send course materials.

Maintain regular correspondence with Language Center staff by email for future scheduling, course updates, etc.

Be ready to mold their teaching and create materials toward an adult audience and adapt to class needs.

Participate in quarterly instructor meetings about improvements, program changes, and various issues.

Optional: For those interested, there may be opportunity to create new theme/content-based courses.

SCHEDULE / HOURS

There are three 10-week core-curriculum semesters per year, and courses meet once or twice a week. Ideally, instructors are assigned a course slot within the 10-week semester that they continue teaching over multiple semesters.

Optional: Instructors may also be assigned non-continuous courses during the supplemental Conversational Japanese 5-week semesters.

Each class lasts for 110/120 minutes; in-person courses start at 12:00 pm, 4:00 pm, and 6:00/6:10 pm; online courses start at 12:00 pm, 4:00 pm, and 6:30 pm. All times are New York time (Eastern Time).
