The Department of Modern Languages in the College of Liberal Arts at Marshall University invites applications for a three-year term, full-time Japanese instructor position in the Japanese Program, starting in August 2026, with the possibility of renewal.
Responsibilities will include teaching all levels of Japanese language, student support, and participation in departmental and programmatic service. We seek an instructor with a strong interest in developing engaging instruction for undergraduate students. Primary teaching assignments will include a variety of language and culture courses in Japanese, culture courses taught in English for majors and non-majors, and requirements for critical thinking and international classes.
1. 4/4 course load of language teaching, including Genki, books 1 and 2.
2. Consult with and support students during regularly scheduled office hours.
3. Assist in the coordination of Japanese cultural activities on campus.
4. Contribute to departmental programming and service.
Location MU - Marshall University Salary Range Salary is commensurate with education, experience, and internal equity.
Qualifications
Must be able to perform all essential job duties as outlined in the job description.
Required Qualifications
Education
Master's degree in Japanese language, linguistics, language pedagogy, second-language acquisition, or a relevant field, Native or near-native command of Japanese and English.

Experience
Experience in teaching Japanese as a foreign language
Preferred Qualifications
Education Experience
Experience in teaching Japanese to English-speaking students at the college level
