VITA volunteers are trained and certified by the IRS to ensure accurate and confidential tax return preparation. Their work helps individuals and families claim important tax credits and refunds, making the tax filing process more accessible and less stressful. To thrive as a VITA volunteer, you need a solid understanding of basic tax law, attention to detail, and IRS certification through annual training. Familiarity with tax preparation software and IRS e-file systems is typically required.
