Providence at Home with CompassusThe Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for supporting the Compassus mission and values of Compassion, Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, and Innovation, while promoting the Compassus philosophy and using the 6 Pillars of Success as the foundation for daily work.
This role is responsible for the recruitment, hiring, training, supervision, development, and retention of volunteers who support patient care and administrative needs. The Volunteer Coordinator coordinates volunteer services with the interdisciplinary team (IDT), ensures compliance with applicable state and federal regulations, and helps ensure patient and family needs for volunteer services are incorporated into the plan of care.
The Volunteer Coordinator directly supervises volunteers and is responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, assigning and directing volunteer workloads, evaluating performance, rewarding and disciplining volunteers, addressing complaints, and resolving problems. The role also maintains positive working relationships across departments and with external stakeholders while upholding the Compassus Code of Ethical Conduct.
Position-Specific ResponsibilitiesParticipates as a member of the interdisciplinary team (IDT), including the development and implementation of the plan of care.
Promotes the use of volunteers as an intervention to support patient care needs.
Actively recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and retains volunteers to support the administrative and patient care needs of the program and Compassus.
Adheres to established human resources policies and procedures related to recruitment and selection.
Ensures prospective volunteers are interviewed and complete all mandated background and health screenings prior to being offered a volunteer position.
Performs initial and ongoing competency evaluations to identify training and support needs.
Maintains accurate records of recruitment and retention activities.
Maintains accurate records of volunteer utilization as a percentage of overall patient care hours, as required by applicable regulations.
Communicates patient and family needs effectively to the IDT.
Educates IDT members regarding volunteer services and the role of volunteers in patient care.
Prepares reports, in-services, and other documentation demonstrating the value and effectiveness of the volunteer program, as requested.
Uses a variety of communication and engagement methods to recruit and retain active volunteers, including newsletters, email campaigns, meetings, gatherings, and celebratory events.
Provides high-quality training for new volunteers.
Provides at least four in-services per year for active volunteers.
Manages volunteer services through effective oversight of volunteer utilization, documentation, and involvement in the plan of care.
Assigns patient care and administrative volunteers and provides oversight of activity and documentation requirements.
Develops and delivers public service announcements regarding hospice volunteerism.
Performs the role of the patient care volunteer when needed to support plan of care interventions.
Operates within established budgetary guidelines and manages volunteer program expenses.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required:
High school diploma or GED.
Preferred:
Associate's or bachelor's degree.
Experience in Social Services, Human Services, Resource Management, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Prior experience managing volunteer services or working with a nonprofit organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to calculate rates, ratios, and percentages.
Language and Communication Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations.

Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations
- Required upon hire: In compliance with the Providence Health & Services-OR Human Resources policy #302 Background Checks, a criminal background check is required for this position, based on assigned duties.
- CA: Required upon request: Driving may be necessary as part of this role. Caregivers are required to comply with all state laws and requirements for driving. Caregivers will be expected to provide proof of driver license and auto insurance upon request. See policy for additional information.
- WA: Required upon hire: Employees providing services in the State of Washington must pass the Washington Access To Criminal History (WATCH) Background Check.
Physical Demands and Work Environment: The demands of this role necessitate a team member to effectively perform essential functions.
