Responsibilities

The Volunteer Coordinator works as a member of the hospice Interdisciplinary Team and in conjunction with the Executive Director or the overall coordination of the Volunteer Services Team, and other duties as decided by the administration.

  • Recruits, trains, and orients persons to serve as volunteers for Willowbrook Hospice.
  • Appropriately coordinates placement of volunteers in conjunction with various administrative staff and follows up to check on participation and documentation.
  • Informs other members on the Interdisciplinary Team of any changes reported by the volunteer concerning the patient’s condition or expressed needs.
  • Assures that volunteer tasks of the Plan of Care are carried out as directed by the Team.
  • Reports cost savings and d a monthly summary of the volunteer activities to submit to the Executive Director and CQI director
  • Develops support and recognition programs for volunteers.
  • Perform community awareness and in-service activities.
  • Maintains and upholds the Hospice Code of Ethics
  • Designs, implements, and coordinates the hospice training and orientation program for new volunteers.
  • Establishes and maintains, per policy/regulation, record keeping system for volunteer activities and personnel records.
  • Participates in CQI activities

Orientation and Training

Willowbrook Hospice will provide orientation and training, as necessary, to assist the Volunteer Coordinator in performing the responsibilities listed above. Trainings may be in-house, or outside seminars or approved self-study. Documentation of orientation and training will become part of the personnel file.

Accountability

Reports directly to the Executive Director.

Works cooperatively with the Director of Nursing

Works cooperatively with all members of the Interdisciplinary Team

Requirements:

Qualifications

Candidate with BS or BA degree preferred. He/she should have experience in dealing with volunteers and working knowledge of the hospice philosophy preferred. He/she should have the ability to develop excellent community relations. Candidate should possess superior communication skills and be able to motivate persons into performing tasks voluntarily.
