Job description

Externship Overview

An externship experience at any National Veterinary Associates hospital provides veterinary students with the opportunity to understand day‑to‑day operations and gain hands‑on clinical experience. Students work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to develop skills in gathering patient histories, performing physical exams, creating treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry services, observing or assisting in surgical procedures, and managing patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Gather patient histories and perform physical examinations.
  • Assist in or perform diagnostics and treatment planning.
  • Provide dentistry services and observe or assist in surgical procedures.
  • Manage medical care of patients.
  • Practice communication with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
Eligibility and Stipend

Externship periods typically range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules.

All veterinary students, regardless of class year, who are in the clinical portion of their education are eligible to apply and may receive a travel/living expense stipend.
