Senior Formulation Scientist – Gummies & Nutraceuticals

Location: Palm Springs, FL and Deerfield FL (availability to commute to both locations is required)
Salary: $110,000 - $130,000/year + potential relocation assistance

Position Overview

A growing nutraceutical organization is seeking a highly experienced Senior Formulation Scientist to lead the development and innovation of gummy and soft chew products within a fast-paced R&D environment. This is a newly created role offering the opportunity to play a key part in expanding product capabilities across additional delivery systems including capsules, powders, liquids, and tablets.

The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in gummy formulation development, strong scientific leadership, and a proven track record within the nutraceutical industry. This individual will oversee the full product development lifecycle from concept through commercialization while partnering cross-functionally with Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, Procurement, and Commercial teams.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on formulation work while also contributing strategically to innovation initiatives and long-term product growth.

Key Responsibilities Product Development & Innovation
  • Lead formulation and development of gummies, soft chews, and future nutraceutical delivery formats including powders, capsules, tablets, and liquids
  • Drive bench formulation, pilot trials, scale-up activities, and commercialization efforts
  • Evaluate ingredient compatibility, efficacy, flavor systems, texture optimization, and product stability
  • Research emerging ingredients, technologies, and market trends to support innovation initiatives
  • Troubleshoot formulation and manufacturing challenges while optimizing product performance and scalability
R&D Leadership
  • Oversee day-to-day R&D laboratory activities including testing, documentation, stability studies, and formulation workflows
  • Support strategic planning for new product development initiatives and future capability expansion
  • Assist with project prioritization, timelines, and resource allocation across multiple development programs
  • Maintain a strong scientific and data-driven approach to product development
Regulatory & Quality Compliance
  • Ensure formulations and development activities comply with FDA, cGMP, NSF, Prop 65, and applicable nutraceutical regulations
  • Partner closely with QA and Regulatory teams to support technical documentation, claims substantiation, and product compliance
  • Support SOP development, validation activities, and documentation standards
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Procurement, Marketing, and Commercial teams to ensure successful product launches
  • Work with ingredient suppliers and external partners to evaluate materials, troubleshoot issues, and identify innovation opportunities
  • Support technology transfer and manufacturing readiness activities
Team Leadership & Mentorship
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior scientists, lab staff, and cross-functional partners
  • Foster a collaborative and solutions-oriented laboratory environment
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and knowledge sharing across the organization
Qualifications Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Chemical Engineering, or related scientific discipline
  • Minimum 5+ years of nutraceutical industry experience
  • Strong hands-on experience developing gummy and/or soft chew formulations
  • Experience with formulation troubleshooting, stability testing, and scale-up activities
  • Working knowledge of cGMP and regulatory requirements related to dietary supplements
  • Strong scientific documentation and technical communication skills
Preferred
  • Master’s degree in a related scientific field
  • Experience expanding into additional delivery systems such as powders, capsules, tablets, or liquids
  • Experience supporting commercialization and manufacturing transfer activities
  • Spanish language skills are a plus
