Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Emergency Department director, manager and charge nurses, this position encompasses the provision and management of emergency patient care through implementation of the nursing process, delegation to and supervision of licensed and unlicensed personnel, and coordination of interdisciplinary care.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  See Licenses and Certifications.

Experience:  One year of recent Emergency Department experience preferred. 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Functions effectively in a high-acuity, fast-paced emergency care environment while managing multiple priorities and rapidly changing patient conditions.
  • Utilizes critical thinking, clinical judgment, and evidence-based practice to assess, prioritize, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of emergency disease processes, trauma, behavioral health emergencies, sepsis, stroke, STEMI, pediatric emergencies, and medical/surgical emergencies.
  • Proficient in emergency nursing interventions, medication administration, patient monitoring, and emergency equipment.
  • Strong organizational, time management, delegation, and prioritization skills.
  • Demonstrates competency with electronic medical records (EMR), computerized provider order entry (CPOE), patient tracking systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and complies with HIPAA, infection prevention, and patient safety standards.
  • Promotes teamwork through effective collaboration with physicians, advanced practice providers, ancillary departments, EMS personnel, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service and conflict resolution skills while maintaining professionalism under stressful situations.

License and Certifications:

  • Current, unrestricted California Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Current AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Current AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification or Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC).
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification.
  • Workplace Violence Prevention (AB508/SB1299) training completed within four (4) months of hire or transfer and maintained per regulatory requirements.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred.
  • Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) certification preferred.

  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system
  • Cardiac and physiologic monitoring equipment
  • Smart infusion pumps
  • Rapid infuser system
  • Blood warmer
  • Defibrillator and external pacemaker
  • Point-of-care testing equipment
  • Mechanical CPR devices (where applicable)
  • Ventilators and airway management equipment
  • Ultrasound bladder scanner (where applicable)
