THE POSITION Make a Difference in Carson - Volunteer with us. *Open continuous until filled* Looking for a way to give back to your community. The City of Carson is seeking passionate and dedicated volunteers to support a variety of city programs within our Parks & Recreation division.

Volunteering is a great way to gain hands-on experience, meet new people, build connections, and make a real impact in your community. Please Note: This is a volunteer position with no financial compensation (current hourly rate: $0.00). Your time and passion are the most valuable contributions

Ideal Volunteer Candidate The City of Carson is looking for enthusiastic volunteers who have a passion for working with kids and promoting active lifestyles. Ideal candidates enjoy sports, mentorship, and community engagement. Volunteers will support seasonal youth sports programs by coaching, mentoring, and assisting with various activities that help shape young athletes and foster teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship.

If you're energetic, patient, and eager to make a positive impact, we'd love to have you on our team. The City of Carson's Community Services Department encompasses the Parks and Recreation Division, which is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for residents by providing a variety of recreational programs and well-maintained facilities. The city proudly offers 12 full-service parks and 4 mini-parks, totaling approximately 123 acres of parkland.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES Under direction, coach an assigned team(s) of youth and emphasize good sportsmanship and fundamentals development. Attend and lead all practices, games, and events for assigned team(s) as directed by the department Perform all other assigned duties as requested by the lead staff and/or supervisor. QUALIFICATIONS This position is open to all candidates who meet the following minimum qualifications: Must have working knowledge of recreational sports, either leading/coaching a team or playing on a team.

Must be at least 18 years of age Must have access to dependable means of transportation to and from assigned location or the ability to arrange necessary and timely transportation to and from assigned location. Desirable Qualifications: Previous experience working with youth in recreation programs, sports, and/or other related areas is desirable. Ability and willing to adapt to a changing environment.

All prospective volunteers must undergo a background screening process, including a Live Scan fingerprint check through the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), as required by California law (Penal Code 11105 and 11105.3). Some volunteer positions may require a TB test clearance. Please note that your start date will be contingent upon successfully clearing the background check

The most qualified volunteers will be invited to participate in further selection procedures. Volunteer applicants who do not meet the minimum requirements, will not be considered. WORKING CONDITIONS Working conditions vary by department and assignment.

In general, volunteers work environment is limited to clerical and recreational work environment. Volunteer roles often include interacting with the general public, in both indoor and outdoor work environments.
