What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Volunteer Dermatologist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Volunteer Dermatologist, you need a medical degree with board certification in dermatology, as well as a thorough understanding of skin diseases and treatments. Familiarity with dermatoscopes, teledermatology platforms, and electronic medical records is often required. Compassion, cultural sensitivity, and strong communication skills are vital for working effectively with diverse patient populations and limited resources. These skills and qualities are important to provide accurate diagnoses and effective care, especially in underserved communities where dermatological expertise is scarce.

How does a volunteer dermatologist typically collaborate with other healthcare professionals in community health settings?

As a volunteer dermatologist, you’ll frequently work alongside primary care physicians, nurses, and other specialists to provide comprehensive care for underserved communities. Collaboration often involves case discussions, referrals, and sharing expertise on dermatological conditions that impact overall patient health. You may also participate in educational sessions for staff or patients, helping to build broader medical knowledge within the team. This interdisciplinary approach ensures that patients receive well-rounded treatment and promotes a supportive work environment.

What is a volunteer dermatologist?

A volunteer dermatologist is a licensed medical professional who specializes in diagnosing and treating skin, hair, and nail conditions, and who offers their services without payment, often to underserved or at-risk communities. These professionals may work in clinics, hospitals, or through medical outreach programs to provide essential dermatological care to people who might not otherwise have access. Their work can include diagnosing skin diseases, educating patients about skin health, and sometimes performing minor procedures. Volunteer dermatologists play a vital role in improving public health and raising awareness about skin conditions.

Job description

North Atlanta Dermatology Opportunity

Anne Arundel Dermatology is a premier physician-led Dermatology practice serving communities across 7 states for more than 50 years. We are proud to offer world-class care with a patient-first philosophy.

North Atlanta Dermatology, an affiliate of Anne Arundel Dermatology, is seeking a Board Certified/Board Eligible Dermatologist to join our team in North Atlanta, Georgia, for a full-time opportunity. This position will support our Suwanee and Duluth locations.

We are considering both experienced physicians and 2026 residents for this opportunity to join a well-established practice with a strong referral base and growing patient demand. The ideal candidate will have experience in general dermatology, with cosmetic dermatology experience a plus, but not required.

At Anne Arundel Dermatology, we prioritize quality over quantity — giving physicians the time, tools, and support to practice medicine the right way. With a well-established patient base, you'll benefit from uncapped earning potential backed by a proven business model.

We provide turnkey support, including state-of-the-art facilities, EMA EMR, and expert clinical and administrative teams so you can focus on patients, not paperwork. Our physicians also enjoy access to career development opportunities such as robust onboarding, mentorship, hands-on training, and long-term growth within our expanding organization.

To support work-life balance, we offer a consistent 4-day work week and a comprehensive benefits package for full-time employees (30+ hours/week), including:

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Short-term & Long-term Disability, Voluntary Life, Critical Illness, and Hospital Indemnity
  • Company-provided Basic Life/AD&D Insurance
  • Up to 6 weeks of paid time off, plus 2 additional weeks for CME
  • Retirement savings account
  • Relocation assistance available

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive patient care in general dermatology.
  • Collaborate with a team of experienced providers and clinical staff to deliver efficient, patient-centered care.
  • Contribute to practice growth by building and maintaining a loyal patient panel.

Qualifications

  • Board Certified/Board Eligible Dermatologist.
  • Comfortable working in a high-demand, fast-paced clinical setting with strong support.
  • Committed to delivering efficient, high-quality care in a team-based environment.
  • Interest in long-term practice growth and establishing a stable patient following.

Licensure/Certifications/Education

  • M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of Dermatology Residency at an accredited healthcare institution.
  • Board Certified/Board Eligible by the American Board of Dermatology (ABD).
  • Active and unrestricted State Medical license (or ability to obtain).
  • Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) and Controlled Dangerous Substances (CDS) license for prescription writing.
