Location: Somerville, NJ.
FT Overnight Position
Schedule: Monday-9:30pm-Tues 7:30am, Tues-9:30pm-Wednesday 7:30am
Wedn-9:30pm-Thurs 7:30am, Thurs 9:30pm-7:30am Friday
Requirements:
Education/Certifications/Experience:
RN degree or Master's degree in health-related field (social work, psychology)
New Jersey Screener Certification or the ability to obtain certification within 1 year of employment
Prior experience as a NJ certified screener preferred
Driver's License, Vehicle:
Valid driver's license required
No more than one moving violation in the last 12 months

Position Overview:
  • To provide psychiatric screening services to children and adults, which adhere to N.J.S.A.30:4-
  • 27.1 as set forth by the NJ Department of Human Services Division of Mental Health Services. These screening services include assessment, referral, linkage, hotline coverage, crisis stabilization, consultation, providing technical assistance to other community agencies, consultation with the psychiatrist, supervision and monitoring of persons served, mobile outreach, screening of patients who may be in need of commitment and screening for admissions to the STCF. Covers for other staff members, as needed.
Essential Job Functions
Create and Maintain:
  • A wellness and recovery-oriented environment by using person-first language, respectful documentation, person-centered planning, and evidence-based practices. All services provided will promote wellness and recovery outcomes.
  • A culture of compliance with internal and external policies, regulations, laws and high ethical standards
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • To assess need for hospitalization, either voluntary or involuntary, based on the principal of "least restrictive setting", as well as, danger to self, others or property as set forth in N.J.S.A.30:4-27.1.
  • Responsible for crisis intervention counseling that seeks to stabilize a psychiatric crisis situation when hospitalization is deemed not appropriate. This includes providing technical assistance, self-help and community resource information.
  • Provides mental health assessment, evaluation, screening, treatment, disposition and referral services to service recipients. This includes providing advocacy and support to patients to secure treatment and services.
  • Develops plans based on patient's needs and completes disposition. This includes consultation and collaboration with referring and other community agencies.
  • Recognizes the importance of teamwork by consulting and collaborating with other team members, including the screening center psychiatrist, when appropriate.
  • Responsible for completing documentation / clinical reports / required forms.
  • Consults and collaborates with Robert Wood Johnson/ Barnabas Hospital, Emergency Room, Social Work and 5W staffs, to coordinate screenings of individuals needing hospitalization or individuals needing voluntary placement.
  • Answers the crisis line, as needed. Provides telephone triage, consultation, information and referral.
  • Maintains person served rights and insures person served confidentiality.
  • Provides appropriate short-term follow-up to ensure linkage and / or stabilization
  • Recognizes the concept of mobile outreach services as set forth in 10:31-1.2(a)3. Understands the role of law enforcement in mobile outreach services. Provides mobile outreach services in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Provides the most efficient and effective work processes to meet the needs of persons served, which leads to the highest quality of services.
  • Displays a professional and collaborative spirit in fulfilling responsibilities and assisting others. Helps to create and maintain positive morale with his / her team, sharing in successes, working through problems.
  • Fosters open dialogue, and works towards creating an atmosphere where outcomes and successes ensure the highest quality of patient care.
  • Demonstrates top performance on a consistent basis. Can be counted on to meet or exceed goals successfully. Positions him / herself to push self and others for results. Spends time on what is important while identifying and prioritizing critical issues. Eliminates roadblocks and creates focus on issues.
  • Complies with all local, State and Federal safety and other regulations, as well as, DMHS standards.
  • Attends all required training's and in-services to maintain screener certification and New Jersey licensure.
  • Accomplishes all aspects of the job in a cost and time effective manner. Carefully utilizes all supplies, equipment, and time to ensure minimal waste or downtime. Manages time effectively.
  • Consults with other service providers and resource people regarding the assessment, treatment and rehabilitation needs of the people receiving services
Coordinates and Monitors:
  • Documentation for charts assigned as directed by supervisor(s)
  • Timely documentation and the inclusion of family and/or significant others as permitted by person served
  • Skills and knowledge requirements:
  • Engagement and outreach with individuals utilizing stage wise interventions, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral techniques, crisis intervention/de-escalation skills, non-judgmental and resourceful
  • Participates in clinical and non-clinical team meetings including individual and team supervision. Actively seeks out monthly supervision from supervisor.
  • Certified Screener-Not Licensed: will provide screening services and crisis assessment but cannot provide brief therapy (As part of the Bridgeway Rehabilitation Services PESS program, Brief Therapy can be offered by licensed clinical staff up to 8 sessions to ensure rapid access to treatment when there are accessibility issues to services due to waitlists and/or limited availability of providers).
