Job description

WE ARE HIRING A MEDICAL LAB ASSITANT!!!

Job Title: Medical Lab Assistant

Job Description: This role will be working with urine and blood. People will have to be comfortable handling human specimen. The lab assistants will be opening and sorting samples, collecting samples, inputting information into lab information system, verifying patient information, additional responsibilities include cutting and coating the kit samples, as well as collect all samples label and prep them for the techs, as well as enter the kits data into the system when the techs have completed testing.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and quarantine all incoming specimen packages in accordance with established laboratory protocols.

  • Open and sort specimens, ensuring each sample is routed to the appropriate workflow or department.

  • Check all specimens against acceptance criteria and identify any issues that could affect testing quality.

  • Separate and properly code all non-testable specimens to ensure accurate tracking and documentation.

  • Accurately enter and verify (accession) all specimen information into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).

  • Collect, label, and prepare all samples for laboratory technologists, ensuring proper identification and handling.

  • Cut and coat kit samples and assist in strip manufacturing duties, including cutting and preparing strips for coating.

  • Assist with manual entry and verification of laboratory results to support accurate reporting to customers.

  • Receive, log, and track deliveries of laboratory supplies to maintain adequate inventory levels.

  • Handle human specimens, including urine and blood, following all safety and quality procedures.

  • Notify a supervisor immediately of any potential deviations from documented procedures or quality standards.

  • Support general lab operations by performing additional tasks and duties as assigned by laboratory leadership.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in the sciences - biology, chemistry, etc.

  • Experience or coursework in chemistry, biology, forensic science, or medical laboratory-related fields.

  • Prior experience in a laboratory setting performing specimen collection, labeling, and diagnostic testing support is preferred.

  • Strong general computer skills and comfort navigating multiple software platforms.

  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to learn and take on new responsibilities.

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and adapt to evolving laboratory needs.

Work Environment

  • Located Near the Schaumburg IL area - Fully onsite position

  • The standard schedule is Monday through Friday from 2:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., with potential weekend and additional coverage as needed; candidates must be able to commit to this schedule. Initial training typically runs from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. for approximately 1-2 weeks before transitioning to the regular shift.

  • Pay: $18/hr

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
