Job description

Job Summary

The Construction Volunteer Supervisor assists in the planning, coordination, and supervision of volunteer activities on First Coast Habitat for Humanity construction worksites. The Construction Volunteer Supervisor is responsible for providing effective communication pertaining to construction volunteer activities and for ensuring construction volunteer activities are performed in a safe and efficient manner. This is a hands-on position that requires driving company vehicles, working with tools including power tools, performing physical labor in outdoor and warehouse environments, and leading groups of people. This position requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to use professional values and ethics to effectively interact with people of diverse backgrounds, strong time management and organizational skills, and a commitment to First Coast Habitat for Humanity’s mission, vision, and values.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and supervise construction volunteer activities as directed by the VP of Construction and Real Estate and Construction Superintendents.
  • Assign and coordinate volunteer tasks based on the current construction production schedule. Report any schedule deviations or obstacles to the VP of Construction and Real Estate or Construction Superintendent.
  • Facilitate the assembly and transport of required tools and equipment for construction volunteer activities.
  • Coordinate the on-site training, supervision, and coaching of all construction volunteers, including homebuyers, Construction Volunteer Team Leaders, and Construction AmeriCorps members, focusing on safety, quality workmanship, and timely completion for construction volunteer activities.
  • Create and maintain a positive working environment and a satisfying volunteer experience for construction volunteers.
  • Ensure a safe work environment and employ safe work practices.
  • Maintain all equipment, tools, and supplies used by volunteers to ensure all are in good working order, well stocked and up to date. Ensure equipment, tools, and supplies are cleaned and returned to their proper storage areas in the construction warehouse. Advise the VP of Construction and Real Estate of items damaged or low in stock.
  • Safely operate company vehicles and equipment in performing duties for construction activities.
  • Train Construction Crew Leaders, Construction Volunteer Team Leaders, and Construction AmeriCorps members to perform each individual volunteer activity and how to lead volunteers in the completion of these activities.
  • Provide supervision and coaching to Construction Crew Leaders, Construction Volunteer Team Leaders, and Construction AmeriCorps members as needed to improve performance in leading volunteer activities.
  • Oversee Construction AmeriCorps members including initial onboarding and training, timesheet submission, development opportunities, and overall program experience.
  • Report any on-site volunteer accidents or incidents immediately to the VP of Construction and Real Estate and Construction Superintendents. Provide documentation for the accident or incident as required.
  • Provide appropriate and timely feedback to the VP of Construction and Real Estate and Construction Superintendents on job site readiness, daily completion status, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with department and company staff. Attend staff meeting as required and directed.
  • Adhere to company and Construction department policies and procedures.
  • Be aware of and advocate for the mission, vision, and values of First Coast Habitat for Humanity.
  • Perform additional duties as required and directed.

Education, Experience, and Job Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • 1+ years of construction experience required
  • Experience with interior and exterior home repair and maintenance work required.
  • Experience with the safe operation of power tools required
  • Experience leading groups or teams required
  • First Aid & CPR Certified preferred
  • OSHA-10 Certification preferred
  • Ability to organize tools and materials to work effectively while maintaining a clean work site
  • Absolute commitment to job safety and following safety procedures
  • Demonstrated experience with the safe operation of motor vehicles including trucks
  • Demonstrated knowledge of construction processes and equipment
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to effectively interact with people of diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to manage time and resources effectively to meet established goals & deadlines
  • Strong sense of urgency and attention to detail
  • Ability to follow instructions and work well in a team environment
  • Physical stamina and strength to perform required manual labor tasks
  • Computer proficiency to include the use of Microsoft Office and other required software applications
  • Valid Driver’s License insurable by company’s insurance carrier
  • Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check, driving record check, and drug screening
  • Authorized to legally work in the United States of America

Work Location and Environment

This position is based out of the First Coast Habitat for Humanity Construction Office and operates in the Jacksonville and Northeast Florida area. This position may require local travel to various company land, construction sites, event sites, warehouse, and office locations. This position requires extended periods of sitting and standing and may require working in various weather conditions. The employee in this position must also occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.


Expected Hours of Work

The standard work hours for this position are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. with limited Saturday hours required.
