Curtis Memorial Library is seeking a new Volunteer Coordinator to work with our established volunteer program - working with over 150 active volunteers throughout our library location in Brunswick, as well as Books on Wheels volunteers in our service area of Brunswick and Harpswell.
Position Summary
Oversees volunteer program administration and coordinates volunteer activity in the library including recruitment, training, scheduling and recognition. Collaborates with other library staff to identify and create volunteer opportunities in line with the overall goals and policies of the library.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Engages with the community to promote library volunteer opportunities and recruit volunteers; represents the library and makes public presentations
Works with library staff to identify volunteer needs and opportunities; uses creativity in developing new volunteer opportunities
Screens and interviews potential volunteers to ensure the best match between the skills, qualifications, and interests of the volunteers and the needs of the library
Conducts ongoing evaluation of the services delivered by volunteers and implements improvements as needed
Oversees volunteer program administration including background and reference checks, scheduling and tracking volunteer hours, and maintaining volunteer database
Works with library staff and other volunteers to train new volunteers, and provides ongoing supervision and training updates and support
Assists in managing volunteer activities and projects including mailings, special events and ongoing library support
Maintains ongoing communication and support to library volunteers
Plans and implements formal and informal volunteer recognition activities to acknowledge the contribution of volunteers to the library
Serves as liaison to other community volunteer groups and seeks out opportunities for collaboration and professional development
Other responsibilities as assigned

Ability to use diplomacy and tact to establish and maintain relationships with a wide variety of volunteers, library patrons, employees, and outside businesses and organizations

Ability to use resources and office technologies relevant to the job duties, including MS Office and volunteer management software

Protect library users' right to privacy and confidentiality with respect to information sought or received and resources consulted, borrowed, acquired, or transmitted
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's Degree or other relevant life experience.
Supervisory or management experience preferred.
Availability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evening and weekend hours
Ability to perform tasks requiring some bending, lifting, pushing, and walking; sufficient manual dexterity, ability to speak, and vision to perform job-specific tasks
