We are looking to grow a high performing, engaged mobile development team that is passionate about delivering an excellent mobile experience for our users. From push notifications and checking account balances to a complex trading experience, Schwab’s ever growing mobile user base is asking for more features, interesting visualizations and intuitive interactions. As a Senior Android Developer, you will: 

  • Build and support native Android applications and prepare documentation per Schwab mobile best practices
  • Create and perform unit and UI testing across a spectrum of Android devices.
  • Support mobile systems in production, troubleshoot, and resolve technical problems.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for evening/weekend support as needed.
  • Expand your knowledge in mobile languages like Kotlin and ramp up on new technology and tooling.
  • Stay up to date with Android framework & Kotlin updates, Android Studio, and related SDK upgrades.
  • Develop compelling user experiences that meet the needs of mobile users.
  • Collaborate with Product teams to innovate new features while maintaining Schwab development standards.
  • Solve highly complex problems, identify viable options, and use analytical skills and judgment to recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Propose solutions to improve efficiency based on a thorough understanding of functional and business priorities.
  • Implement standardized logging and monitoring frameworks and proactively drive defensive programming efforts.
  • Deliver assignments on time.
What you have

Required qualifications:

  • 5+ years of native Android development experience, including strong proficiency in Kotlin and/or Java.
  • Experience writing unit tests and automated UI tests using frameworks such as Appium, Espresso, or UI Automator.
  • Experience integrating with REST APIs.
  • Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and debugging related issues.
  • Experience debugging memory and performance issues on Android.
  • Familiarity with design patterns that leverage dependency injection (e.g., Dagger, Hilt, Koin).
  • Experience working with native Android accessibility features such as TalkBack and Dynamic Text.
  • Exposure to updating apps to comply with Google Android and Kotlin version upgrades.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working with reactive architectures (e.g., RxJava, Kotlin Flow, LiveData).
  • Experience with iterative development methodologies such as TDD and BDD.
  • Understanding modern design patterns and industry-standard best practices.
  • Understanding of scaling, performance, and availability concerns.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to thrive in a distributed, enterprise-grade environment.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced Agile environment.
  • Ability to gain consensus and persuade others based on expertise.
  • Comfortable problem-solving even when faced with ambiguous or incomplete data.
  • Exercises good judgment in analyzing and sequencing work for delivery every sprint and quarter.
  • Able to identify stakeholders, assess their needs, and manage expectations through effective communication.
