Survey Manager RPLS


Role Description: Huitt-Zollars has a great full-time opportunity for a Survey Manager/RPLS in our El Paso, Texas office. This role will lead and manage the El Paso survey department, including survey staff, project delivery, scheduling, and project budgets. The Survey Manager/RPLS will also collaborate with and support other Huitt-Zollars offices and project teams, providing surveying expertise and additional project capacity as workload and project needs require.

Duties:

  • Manage several survey projects simultaneously which include scheduling, staffing and budgets.
  • Prepare scope of services and detailed project budget for multiple projects.
  • Ensure technical quality, scheduling, and profitability of projects.
  • Act as primary client contact and build relationships with clients.
  • Negotiate scope and fees of projects with clients and follow up on billing/collections.
  • Conduct marketing of surveying and engineering services and business development to obtain additional survey projects.
  • Prepare proposals, cost estimates, plats, legal descriptions, topographic surveys, right of way maps, ALTA, etc.
  • Ensure QA and QC review is complete.
  • Manage survey staff and mentor them to develop professionally.

Qualifications:

  • Registered Professional Land Surveyor.
  • Minimum 10 years of professional land surveying experience, including at least 5 years managing survey projects and survey staff.
  • Office production experience including boundary, topographic and construction surveying.
  • Business development experience.
  • Knowledge in MicroStation, AutoCAD Civil 3D, or Trimble Access, is a plus.
  • Passion for building client relationships, marketing surveying, and engineering services.
  • Strong desire to build a positive culture among staff.

Project Manager (PM) Role Annual Performance Goals & Expectations:

  • Having a deep understanding of how your work and contributions as a co-owner add to Huitt-Zollars’ mission and core values.
  • Maintaining expected Effective Labor Multiplier (ELM) on sum of all associated projects.
  • Consistently upholds business processes including timely monthly A/R’s, invoicing, timekeeping, resource forecasting, percent completes, etc.
  • Achieves personal sales goal.
  • Achieves stated target personal utilization goal for PM.
  • Understands, follows and ensures quality control measures and risk management measures are being applied and adhered to projects and daily operations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer, type/key-in data
  • May lift and carry up to 50 pounds, hike up and down steep slopes carrying up to 50 pounds of survey equipment
  • The employee must be able to concentrate on details, work under deadline pressures, apply sound logic and judgment, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities
