Job description

Position Overview:
We are seeking a qualified and experienced American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to support communication needs in a dynamic machine shop environment. In this role, you will provide real-time ASL interpretation for deaf or hard-of-hearing employees, facilitating effective communication in various work-related settings, including meetings, training sessions, and daily operations.

Work Environment:
This position is based in an industrial/machine shop environment. The interpreter will need to safely navigate the shop floor, which involves exposure to noise, machinery, and equipment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate, timely ASL interpretation for deaf and hard-of-hearing employees.

  • Facilitate communication between employees, supervisors, and other stakeholders.

  • Interpret during meetings, safety briefings, training sessions, and routine work activities.

  • Understand and accurately convey company policies, procedures, and safety protocols.

  • Collaborate with team members to ensure seamless communication.

  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional interpreting standards and ethics.


Required Qualifications:

  • National certification as an American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter, such as NIC (National Interpreter Certification), CI (Certificate of Interpretation), or CT (Certificate of Transliteration).

  • Minimum of 2 years of interpreting experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or machine shop setting.

  • Fluency in American Sign Language and English.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with consistent exposure to machinery and shop noise.

  • Strong focus, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret for extended periods.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and workplace safety procedures.

  • Certifications in relevant safety areas (e.g., OSHA, industrial safety training).
