Job description

Position Summary: The Assistant Director, Technical will serve as a pivotal leader within IMG Academy’s volleyball program, reporting directly to the Director, Volleyball. As a core member of the Volleyball Leadership Team, this individual will work collaboratively with other Assistant Directors to align vision, strategy, and execution across all facets of the volleyball program.

The Assistant Director is charged with elevating the technical and developmental standards of the volleyball program—with an emphasis on team and individual player performance, collegiate and professional placement, and the holistic growth of student-athletes. This role will be tasked with the design, implementation, and continual refinement of high-performance training frameworks tailored to the unique developmental needs of volleyball. In addition to delivering exceptional programming, the position will help cultivate a professional, inclusive coaching culture, support operational excellence, and ensure that every student-athlete receives unrivaled experience in line with IMG Academy’s mission.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and continuously refine scalable, cutting-edge volleyball training programs tailored specifically to the developmental trajectories of volleyball teams and players.
  • Use data-driven performance metrics and best practices to ensure measurable progress and sustained peak performance in athletes.
  • Drive the creation and evolution of comprehensive program frameworks for the program, including periodization models, training methodology, and operational structures.
  • Attract, inspire, and retain a team of top-tier coaches for the program by fostering an inclusive environment centered on mentorship, continuous education, and leadership growth. Serve as a passionate advocate for coaching strategies and staff development.
  • Work in partnership with Assistant Director, Volleyball Operation for all logistical requirements. Oversee staffing, team rosters, scheduling, and resource allocation. Anticipate challenges specific to the program and implement agile, gender-conscious solutions to support seamless program delivery and growth.
  • Maintain a consistent, visible presence across the girls’ soccer environment at IMG Academy. Offer encouragement, accountability, and strategic support to coaching staff and student-athletes, modeling the standards of excellence expected throughout the program.
  • Demonstrate exceptional communication skills when engaging with internal departments, parents, student-athletes, and external partners. Cultivate strong, trust-based relationships within the broader volleyball community, including collegiate and professional coaches focused on talent.
  • Uphold the highest standards of ethics and compliance within the program, rigorously adhering to IMG Academy policies, NCAA guidelines, and other regulatory requirements that protect and empower student-athletes.
  • Work in partnership with Assistant Director, Volleyball Experience to when connecting with Sales, Marketing, and PR teams to elevate visibility of the program. Promote the advancement of the game globally by cultivating relationships with elite players, international teams, and stakeholders invested in volleyball.
  • Take an active role in identifying and recruiting top volleyball talent. Leverage extensive knowledge of collegiate and professional pathways to ensure successful placement and career advancement for IMG Academy’s student-athletes.
  • Represent the volleyball program at games, tournaments, and major events, serving as a respected ambassador of IMG Academy. Engage positively with prospective families, partners, and the broader soccer community to raise the profile of the program.
  • Ensure that all volleyball activities align with IMG Academy’s safety standards and culture of excellence. Model professionalism, accountability, and ethical leadership at all times.
  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and a proactive spirit in supporting the continued growth and success of the volleyball program.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Physical Education, Business, or a related field; equivalent professional experience will be considered.
  • Proven coaching experience at the professional, collegiate, or elite youth level required.
  • Demonstrated experience in program leadership, including coach development, staff supervision, recruitment, and performance management within a high-performance environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage, motivate, and inform a wide range of stakeholders including athletes, staff, parents, and external partners.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability to lead cross-functional teams in a dynamic, campus-wide environment.
  • A strategic thinker with a business-oriented mindset and the ability to drive operational excellence while maintaining a strong focus on student-athlete development and well-being.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Word), with the ability to utilize software and tools to enhance curriculum delivery and administrative efficiency.
  • Ability to work in outdoor conditions for extended periods and move freely across athletic facilities including fields, turf areas, and indoor training spaces.
  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as program needs require.
  • Ability and availability to travel for competitions, recruiting, and other program-related events.

Preferred Skills:

  • CPR Certification
  • Valid driver’s license with ability to drive for tournaments, games, travel
