Job description

The Commercial Data Cabling Technician plays a key role in ensuring business networks and communications systems are functioning properly. We're looking for a skilled professional capable of installing network data and fiber optic cabling, video surveillance and access control systems. Success in this role requires both the independence to manage tasks solo and the collaboration skills to work effectively within a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ year(s) experience with Cat5/6/7 & Fiber, surveillance and access control systems
  • Ability to read a blueprint with data symbols
  • Training and leading others
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a collaborative mindset focused on achieving shared objectives
  • Capable of receiving direction, providing constructive feedback
  • Skilled in hands-on tasks such as mounting equipment and terminating cables
  • Demonstrated ability to perform effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines with composure

Key Responsibilities:

  • Installing, maintaining, and repairing cable infrastructure.
  • Performing maintenance on existing cabling systems.
  • Testing newly installed or relocated cables according to company specifications.
  • Identifying and removing redundant cabling.
  • Installing of network equipment, surveillance systems, access control systems, etc.
  • Troubleshooting issues with cable network.
  • Installing of cable support structures such as j-hooks, cable racks, and innerduct.
  • Ensuring all cables are neatly tied and bundled according to safety regulations.
  • Applies established procedures in testing every newly installed or relocated cable
  • Knowledge of labeling, pulling, and dressing category 3, category 5e, category 6 and fiber optic, and previous wiring or data experience.


Travel: working on job sites in the West Michigan area, overnights are rare!

Preferred Education/ Experience/ Training in the following General safety, CPR, Ariel Lift, Fall Protection, Scaffolding usage.  BICSI, (Journeyman’s license a plus)
