Job description

This is a full-time position working onsite in Des Moines, IA. Candidate must live within a reasonable commute of Des Moines, IA or be able to relocate.
Under general supervision, oversee the configuration, administration, management and maintenance of the local and wide area computer network information systems and communication circuits for the enterprise. Participate in on-call rotation for critical support escalation outside of core hours.
Responsibilities:
  • Analyze network and system faults, troubleshoot and perform diagnostics on network operating systems and hardware to isolate and resolve communication issues.
  • Configure, install, support and maintain network systems and subsystems, providing recommendations regarding network architectures and solutions in order to ensure efficient and optimum network performance. Assist with analysis, design, and implementation of network architectures.
  • Provide technical support for data and/or telephony communications network infrastructure and respond to inquiries from staff, service providers, vendors and customers.
  • Work as a team member with other technical staff and serve as an expert technical resource across functional teams to ensure consistent knowledge of network architectures and solution capabilities.
  • Conduct research and evaluate network and communication infrastructure technologies and recommend purchases of equipment and services to meet business requirements.
  • Monitor system utilization and associated costs to guide highly complex short and long term information technology investment decisions as related to voice/data network solutions.
  • Assist in producing documentation and technical writing to describe network, system, and security topologies.
  • Implement, support, monitor, and provide advice on network security solutions including firewall, intrusion prevention, host-based security, authentication and encryption systems to ensure internal and external security controls are appropriate and operating as intended.
  • Perform other job-related duties and special projects as required.

Job Requirements/Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelors Degree or equivalent work experience
Course(s) of Study: Degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certifications preferred related to network management and security (CCNA, CCNP, CCSP, CCIE).
Experience: 3-5 years experience working with TCP/IP, Ethernet and wide area network architectures.
Type of Experience: Experience with network design and voice/data communication systems.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  3. Solid knowledge of network operating systems, network and application protocols, routing and switching, network security hardware and software solutions. Experience with Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention, access control systems, load balancing, LAN/WAN analysis and optimization and telecom circuits for both voice and data. Strong understanding of IP packet analysis and network performance monitoring. Experience with TCP/IP, Ethernet, DNS, DHCP, SSL-VPN, IPSec, NAT/PAT, ACLs, TACACS+, RADIUS, EIGRP, BGP, VoIP, AAA, SNMP, STP, VLANs and 802.1q Trunking. Strong analytical and problem solving skills. In-depth knowledge and functional understanding of voice and data communication technologies. Ability to work in a fast paced, demanding and rapidly changing environment. Excellent communication and leadership skills. Strong interpersonal skills to interact with clients and team members. Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects and assignments. Ability to work independently and as part of a team and maintain confidentiality of information. Customer Focused with strong attention to detail. Adaptive, flexible, and resourceful individual that is results orientated.
