Mon-Fri 2pm-5pm
About the Position:
The Part-Time Culinary Instructor for the SAFE Waterbury program is responsible for teaching students basic culinary skills, food safety, and nutrition as part of a summer learning initiative. The role involves preparing snacks and meals, supervising youth in kitchen activities, and maintaining a safe and clean environment. It requires food service experience, ServSafe certification, and strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage and instruct youth in a team-oriented setting.
  • Prepare snacks and meals to support hands-on learning
  • Instruct youth in culinary skills, kitchen safety, and nutrition
  • Assist in delivering the vocational culinary program by providing practical training
  • Support students' skill development through demonstrations and supervision
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment
  • Collaborate with staff to implement curriculum components and instructional activities
  • Encourage student engagement and interest in culinary careers

Schedule and Rate of Pay:
  • Monday - Friday 2:00pm - 5:00pm (15 hours per week)
  • Rate of pay is $30.00 per hour

Qualifications:
  • Prior experience in food service, preferably in institutional or large-scale cooking settings
  • Valid ServSafe Certification or equivalent food safety credential
  • Experience with vendor ordering and inventory management
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and supervise youth and collaborate with team members
  • Demonstrated professionalism, reliability, and credibility
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work cooperatively within a team and foster a positive, supportive environment
