Job description

GovCIO is seeking a Cloud Automation Engineer to support a critical government computer system for the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG). This role is primarily responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining automation workflows within VMware Aria Automation/VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Automation and VMware Aria Automation Orchestrator/VCF Operations Orchestrator. This position will be located in Kearneysville, WV, and will be a hybrid position.
Responsibilities
As a Cloud Automation Engineer, you will serve as a primary technical resource for ensuring cloud orchestration and self-service capabilities meet operational and mission requirements. You will be responsible for day-to-day automation execution, system integration, and maintaining strict security compliance. Key responsibilities include:
  • Design, deploy, and manage self-service catalogs and cloud provisioning blueprints utilizing VMware Aria Automation/VCF Automation.
  • Develop, customize, and maintain complex orchestration workflows within VMware Aria Automation Orchestrator/VCF Operations Orchestrator to automate operational tasks.
  • Analyze, map, and document complex end-to-end workflows spanning multiple technology domains including compute, network, storage, and security.
  • Integrate automation solutions with external enterprise services such as Infoblox DDI, Tenable Security Center, and ServiceNow leveraging JavaScript and REST APIs.
  • Maintain underlying VMware vSphere and VCF infrastructure to support automated provisioning, resource allocation, and VM lifecycle management.
  • Ensure all automated deployments and self-service components comply with federal security standards, government baselines, and DISA STIGs while conducting vulnerability remediation.
  • Proactively monitor automation platform performance, troubleshoot complex workflow or provisioning failures, and perform root cause analysis.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, automated blueprints, processes, and standard operating procedures.

Qualifications
High School with 9+ years (or commensurate experience)
Required Skills & Experience
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (Security+ CE, CySA+, CCNA Security).
  • 5+ years of experience using JavaScript and REST APIs (specifically Infoblox DDI and Tenable Security Center) to develop cloud automation solutions.
  • Proven experience designing, deploying, and managing automated workflows using VMware Aria Automation/VCF Automation tools.
  • Proficiency building, customizing, and maintaining orchestration workflows with VMware Aria Automation Orchestrator/VCF Operations Orchestrator.
  • Comprehensive operational understanding of VMware vSphere and VCF environments, including VM lifecycle, resource allocation, and cluster behavior.
  • Experience integrating automation workflows with ServiceNow via API to automate ITSM processes, approval routing, fulfillment, and ticketing.
  • Strong foundational understanding of diverse IT domains including enterprise virtualization, IP networking, core infrastructure services, network boundaries, and enterprise storage.

Clearance Required: Active Secret Clearance
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Experience supporting U.S. Coast Guard or Department of Homeland Security (DHS) programs.
  • Relevant VMware certifications highly preferred (e.g., VCP-VVF Admin, VCP-VCF Admin, VCP-VCF Architect, VCP-DCV, or VCP-Cloud Management).
  • Familiarity with software-defined networking (SDN) and security concepts within VMware NSX, including logical switching, routing, firewalls, and load balancing.
  • Understanding of Kubernetes concepts and experience automating containerized workloads utilizing vSphere Kubernetes Services (Tanzu) integrated with VMware Aria Automation.
  • Familiarity with AWS and Microsoft Azure public cloud platforms, hybrid cloud architectures, and multi-cloud provisioning integration.
