Information Assurance (IA) Specialist / Network Administrator

Primary Location: Quantico, VA (with travel to distributed MISTCs as required)

Clearance: Secret (Top Secret/SCI may be required for specific systems)

Job Summary

The Information Assurance (IA) Specialist / Network Administrator provides cybersecurity and network administration expertise in support of the USMC MOSS / Marine Corps Operations Center Training Team (MOCTT) Program and its associated MISTCs. This role ensures the security, reliability, and performance of training networks, systems, and virtualized environments, while maintaining compliance with DoD Information Assurance policies and directives. The IA Specialist / Network Administrator also provides end-user support for classroom and field training exercises, integrates IA practices into daily operations, and supports system accreditation and sustainment, enabling secure and mission-ready training environments in support of Marine Corps operational readiness.


Specific Responsibilities

  • Configure, operate, and maintain network servers, routers, switches, and firewalls supporting MOCTT and MISTC training networks.
  • Manage Active Directory accounts, group policies, and user permissions for distributed training environments.
  • Maintain, monitor, and secure virtualization environments (e.g., VMware) and network operating systems.
  • Apply DoD Risk Management Framework (RMF) controls, STIGs, and IA policy requirements to ensure systems remain compliant and accredited.
  • Conduct system scans, patch management, and vulnerability assessments to sustain system security posture.
  • Document and develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for installation, configuration, and sustainment of IT systems.
  • Provide end-user IT support for operating systems, applications, and peripherals in classroom and field training environments.
  • Support classroom training, field exercises, and live events, including system setup, troubleshooting, and technical assistance.
  • Research, recommend, and integrate new cybersecurity solutions and network technologies to support training objectives.


Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related field preferred. Equivalent military technical training (e.g., USMC 06XX Communications, Army 25-series, Navy IT) may substitute for degree requirements.
  • Experience administering and maintaining DoD networks and systems, including account management, firewalls, and access controls.
  • Hands-on experience with Active Directory, VMware, Windows Server, and enterprise networking devices.
  • Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity frameworks (RMF, STIGs, IA controls) and IA compliance/accreditation processes.
  • Experience in secure system configuration, network monitoring, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Prior military or contractor experience in a training support environment (MISTC, MOCTT, COC, TOC, or JOC) highly desirable.
  • Certifications Required (DoD 8570 IAT Level II): CompTIA Security+ CE. Preferred: CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA/CCNP, CISSP or CEH, VMware Certified Professional (VCP), ITIL v4 Foundation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance; TS/SCI may be required for specific systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills to support Marines, government civilians, and contractors in training environments.
  • Willingness to support field exercises, extended hours, and travel as needed.


Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Garrison and field/tactical work environment.
  • Occasional extended working hours will be required.
  • Schedule: M-F normal business hours; reverse operations may occur based on exercise requirements.

Travel

  • Travel to distributed MISTCs required as mission dictates.
  • Domestic and OCONUS travel as required to support program execution.
