About the Damar Internship Program
As a Recreation Intern, you'll gain hands-on, real-world experience in the field of Recreation during a 12-week summer internship. You'll work closely with a team of skilled professionals and gain valuable exposure to our unique client population. In this role, you'll assist with a variety of para-professional tasks that support the care of individuals served by Damar. You'll work alongside the Recreation department to implement activities focused on health, physical education, recreation, and aquatics, ensuring an engaging and positive experience for those in our care. This internship offers more than just experience - it's an opportunity for mentorship, leadership development, and coaching. Not only will you contribute to the success of our clients, but you'll also become part of a network of other driven interns and practicum students, all with shared career goals.

Remarkable ways you will be making a difference:
  • Works with clients to attain fitness or skill objectives
  • Ensures programs are conducted in compliance with appropriate safety standards
  • Reports any safety issues with respect to recreational equipment, grounds or facilities
  • Takes pride and ownership in Damar's facilities and assigned work areas
  • Implements activities utilizing Damar's pool and fitness center as scheduled by the Recreation Director
  • Assists the Recreation Director in conducting pre- and post-testing or resident fitness abilities
  • Maintains neat, chronological and timely records of assigned recreational events and activities
  • Will adhere to all policies and procedures as defined in the Employee Handbook and Damar Operational Policies and Procedures Manual

What you need to be considered:
  • High school diploma
  • Currently enrolled at least half-time in an accredited college or university
  • Minimum age of 18 per licensure requirements
  • Valid Indiana driver's license and driving record that meets eligibility requirements of Damar's insurance carrier (for all positions requiring driving)
  • Be clear of any felony convictions, substantiated charges of neglect or other disqualifying criminal convictions
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment physical
  • Favorably meet and maintain Damar's background screening

Essential Job Functions:
Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (up to 35lbs); to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
