Job description

At Houston Methodist, the Videographer/Photographer/Editor position is responsible for shooting and editing video and photography for projects that support and communicate Houston Methodist's mission, values and brand. This position will work as one or more of the following on most projects: video editor, photo editor, motion graphics artist, teleprompter operator, sound engineer, videographer, and/or photographer. While the primary responsibility of the Videographer/Photographer/Editor position is to shoot and edit video and photos for Houston Methodist corporate marketing, communications, and public relations, this position will also work on projects for other Houston Methodist departments and entities as needed. The primary responsibility of this role will be either as editor or as videographer/photographer, as determined by department need.

QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
  • Bachelor’s degree in Radio-Television-Film or related field which includes Digital Media, Photography, Journalism, Media Production/Arts, Broadcasting or Communications

EXPERIENCE
  • Three years' experience in videography, photography or video/photography editing
  • In lieu of Bachelor’s degree, five years' experience in videography, photography or video/photography editing

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job, determined through on-going skills, competency assessments, and performance evaluations
  • Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles
  • Skilled and knowledgeable in current video and photographic editing and trends
  • Ability to work alone or in teams
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, high-pressure, fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment
  • Ability to work on multiple projects in various stages of completion; able to organize incoming project assets
  • Strong scriptwriting and story-telling skills. Ability to recognize quality scripts and make recommendations for improvement

  • Collaborates with colleagues, physicians and staff to shoot and edit videos and photographs that meet or exceed specific target objectives.
  • With direction, interacts and collaborates frequently with high-level Houston Methodist executives, board members, department chairs, physicians, directors and managers during video/photo shoots; displays highest level of professionalism during such interactions.
  • Interacts with patients showing compassion and sensitivity; ensures the integrity of the patient’s stories.

SERVICE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Provides creative input as to execution of projects.
  • Edits and and shoots videos and photographs that meet or exceed specific target objectives and advance the goals of the client and Houston Methodist.
  • Provides/distributes videos and photographs produced in specified formats to colleagues, physicians and staff in response to requests and project requirements.
