Throughout a project, they participate in brainstorming sessions, provide visual concepts, and iterate on feedback from stakeholders to ensure the final design aligns with both user needs and business goals. Effective communication and adaptability are key, as Visual Designers often need to balance creative vision with technical or brand requirements. This collaborative environment helps ensure cohesive and impactful visual experiences across digital and print platforms.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a visual designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Visual Designer, you need strong proficiency in graphic design principles, typography, color theory, and a portfolio demonstrating your creative work, often supported by a degree in design or a related field. Expertise in industry-standard tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and familiarity with prototyping tools like Figma or Sketch are typically required. Exceptional communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills help Visual Designers work effectively with clients and cross-functional teams. These skills and qualities are crucial for creating compelling visuals that align with brand goals and ensure a seamless user experience.

Designer - Social & Brand

Monks

Toronto, ON โ€ข Hybrid

Full-time

Posted 9 days ago

Job description

About the Role

As a Social & Brand Designer, you'll bring one of Mexico's largest retail brands based in the United States to life across social platforms-treating it as more than retail marketing by thinking socially and in real time. You'll take the distinct visual world of each brand under this banner and make it feel unmistakably tailored, socially native, and relevant to the platform it lives on.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about seeking new opportunities to create impactful work, turning key art, footage, and cultural moments into fresh creative-not just assets resized for social.

Responsibilities:
  • Translate each brand's visual identity into platform-native, socially relevant work.
  • Design across static, motion, and video formats for multiple touchpoints.
  • Transform key art, footage, and cultural moments into original creative.
  • Build scalable design systems rather than one-off assets.
  • Deliver quick turnarounds for both executional and contextual needs.
  • Collaborate closely with a large team of colleagues.
  • Bring solutions, creative opinions, and senior-level ownership to every project.
About YouThe essentials:
  • Proficient in Figma, Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Collaborative and attentive within a large team.
  • Works within an existing brand system while pushing its dynamic evolution.
  • Designs specifically for each social platform.
  • Balances premium execution with lo-fi, internet-native creativity.
  • Strong typography, layout, image-selection, and motion instincts.
  • Builds scalable systems, not just individual deliverables.
  • Understands retail, culture, and audience behaviour.
  • Moves quickly without sacrificing craft.
  • Can move seamlessly between a meme and a major cultural moment-with the same level of thought, taste, and precision across all of it.
Not a must, but a plus:
  • Animation skills (After Effects).
  • Bilingual (Spanish / English).

At Monks, we believe in fostering an environment where a diversity of perspectives can thrive. We proactively work to design hiring processes that promote equity and inclusion while mitigating bias. We celebrate diversity and are committed to building a team that reflects the communities we serve. We welcome and encourage qualified applicants, from all backgrounds, who are excited to contribute to our mission. ย

Monks is committed to ensuring equal access and participation for people with disabilities. We are committed to treating people with disabilities in a way that allows them to maintain their dignity and independence. We believe in integration, and we are committed to meeting the needs of people with disabilities in a timely manner. We will do so by removing and preventing barriers to accessibility and by meeting our accessibility requirements under local accessibility laws.
