Job description
The Department of Sociology at the University of Notre Dame invites applications for an open-rank (tenured or tenure-track) position set to begin in the fall of 2027. Position titles may include Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor. The area of specialization is open. Duties include research, teaching, and service.
Our department has a reputation for being both collegial and supportive without sacrificing ambition. The Department of Sociology at Notre Dame has long-standing excellence in the sociology of culture, education, movements and politics, religion, and theory. In recent years, we have established strengths in several sociological areas, including family, gender & sexuality, global & transnational, health, organizations & institutions, race & ethnicity, and stratification. We especially welcome applications from scholars who contribute to one or more of the department's existing strengths while also helping us expand into new areas of expertise. The faculty embraces a range of innovative methodological approaches and has expertise that covers the globe.

Qualifications
Candidates at the entry level must have completed all requirements for a Ph.D. degree or have completed all but dissertation in Sociology or a closely related field. Candidates at the advanced assistant, associate, or full professor level must have a Ph.D. in Sociology or a closely related field.

The following application materials should be submitted through the Interfolio system: a letter of application, CV, a research statement, a teaching statement, course evaluations (if available), and writing samples of representative work-if possible, please include at least one solo-authored writing sample. For untenured candidates, please submit at least three letters of reference. For already tenured faculty, we will ask long-listed candidates for a minimum of three letters of reference at that time.
