Job description

Bon Secours Mercy Health is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Physician Assistant or Family Nurse Practitioner to join our Pantops Urgent Care team in Charlottesville, VA. This position offers the opportunity to provide high-quality, patient-centered care in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

As part of our urgent care team, you will manage a wide range of non-emergent illnesses and injuries while working alongside a supportive staff that includes medical assistants and front-office team members. Our urgent care clinics are open 7 days per week, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m., providing consistent scheduling and the opportunity to build strong connections with both patients and colleagues.

Urgent Care Scope of Services:

  • Walk-in access to high-quality, non-emergency care
  • Occupational Health services, including workers’ compensation, return-to work evaluations, and pre-employment physicals
  • Support the Primary Care Virtualist Program during periods of available capacity as needed.
  • On-site diagnostic services, including laboratory testing, X-rays, and EKGs
  • Seamless coordination with primary care and specialty providers as needed

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive care for walk-in patients, including diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of urgent care needs
  • Perform procedures such as suturing, splinting, I&D, and wound care as appropriate
  • Collaborate with medical assistants and clinical staff to ensure efficient patient flow and excellent service
  • Provide patient education and ensure clear communication around care plans
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record

Qualifications

Mandatory:

  • Current and unrestricted Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Physician Assistant (PA) license in Virginia.
  • Active DEA license
  • A minimum of two years of active FNP/PA experience
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced clinical setting
  • Must be comfortable seeing up to 60 patients during peak cold and flu seasons.
  • DOT Certified or ability to obtain
  • BLS (minimum) or ability to obtain

Preferred:

  • Experience working as FNP/PA in Urgent care, emergency medicine, or family medicine - In leu of specialty experience, Bootcamps are available and must be completed prior to starting.
  • Experience with workers’ comp claims
  • Experience completing DOT and school sports physicals

Work Hours

  • Full-Time: Three 8a - 8p shifts per week with rotating weekends.
    • Schedule Example:
      • Week 1: 0745 - 2000 M, W, Sa
      • Week 2: 0745 – 2000 Su, Th, F
  • Holiday Expectation
    • At minimum, one market clinic will be open on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day with normal hours. All other clinics (if open) will close at 5p. However, all providers, regardless of clinic, will be expected to provide rotational coverage.
    • All clinics will have normal operating hours on New Years Eve, New Years Day, Memorial Day, Independency Day, Labor Day, and Thanksgiving Eve.
