Job description

Job Title: Virtual Designer - Dallas, TX

Location: Dallas, TX - Hybrid
Employment Type: Full-Time
Salary: $90,000 - $125,000 Annually

Company Introduction

This opportunity is with one of the largest open-shop electrical contractors in Texas, ranked among the top 10 electrical contractors in the state, with a 30+ year track record and expanding operations across Oklahoma. The company's expertise spans nearly every corner of electrical construction, from design-build and industrial work to large-scale healthcare, aviation, education, and data center projects, and it has built a reputation with general contractors for precision, reliability, and on-time delivery.

The company runs one of the strongest VDC/BIM departments in the state, producing shop drawings to a rigorous LOD 400 detail level and coordinating directly with an in-house prefabrication department to speed up field installation and reduce on-site labor. The virtual design team averages well over a decade of electrical industry experience, and the department fosters a detail-oriented, collaborative culture built on clear communication and dependable delivery.

Role Overview

The Virtual Designer is responsible for laying out and producing electrical shop drawings with a working knowledge of computer-aided drafting (CAD/Revit) system standards, practices, and techniques. This role builds 3D models from field superintendent layouts and supports BIM coordination across disciplines under the guidance of the Sr. Virtual Design team.

The role works closely with the operations team, general contractors, MEP trade partners, and senior VDC staff to ensure systems are coordinated, install-ready, and aligned with project schedules. This is a hybrid position with some days in the office and some days working from home.

Core Responsibilities

  • Build 3D models from field superintendent layouts using Revit and Navisworks
  • Perform BIM coordination, including clash detection and resolution using Navisworks Manage
  • Upload models and follow the GC-lead BIM coordination process through to model sign-off
  • Mentor and train Detailers in the production of detailed shop drawings
  • Build and maintain relationships with the operations team, general contractors, and MEP trade team members
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of the company's Revit templates, details, and graphic standards
  • Produce bills of materials for procurement and labor tracking
  • Complete tasks with accuracy and strong attention to detail while meeting aggressive project schedules

Required Background

  • Minimum of 2 years experience performing computer-aided drafting in the commercial construction industry (electrical construction experience a plus)
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • CAD Associate degree and/or equivalent working experience required
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Revit required
  • Ability to work with Navisworks/Revizto to view trade clashes and extract information from the BIM model
  • Ability to read and comprehend construction blueprints and project specifications
  • Capable of working on multiple projects concurrently
  • Ability to learn and follow direction from the Sr. Virtual Design team
  • Knowledge and application of the National Electrical Code (NEC) is a plus
  • Electrical field experience and/or Electrical Theory Associate degree is a plus

Compensation & Perks

  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • 401(k) plan with company match
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Annual bonus program based on performance, achievement, and company profitability
  • Term life, AD&D, and voluntary life insurance
  • Disability income protection insurance
  • Pre-tax flexible spending plans (health and dependent care)
  • Paid parental leave
  • Paid holidays, vacation, and personal time
  • Training and professional development opportunities
  • Hybrid schedule: a mix of in-office and work-from-home days
  • Path for advancement into senior VDC and leadership roles
