Job description

Make a meaningful impact supporting students as a dedicated educator specializing in visual impairments. This contract opportunity is ideal for professionals passionate about creating inclusive educational environments. Located near Easton, MD, this role focuses on providing expert guidance and instruction to learners who are visually impaired, ensuring each student receives the individualized support they need to thrive.

Key Qualifications:

  • Current, active Maryland teaching certification (MD Cert) specific to Visual Impairments is required
  • Previous experience as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) or related role
  • Strong knowledge of adaptive technologies and Braille instruction
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and school staff
  • Ability to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for visually impaired students
  • Creative, flexible, and patient teaching style

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specialized instruction to students with visual impairments on a part-time schedule (10-15 hours per week)
  • Assess student needs and customize educational materials and strategies accordingly
  • Collaborate with school teams to ensure accessibility and inclusivity throughout the curriculum
  • Teach Braille reading and writing, as well as orientation and mobility skills as needed
  • Provide support and education to classroom teachers about working with visually impaired learners
  • Monitor progress, collect data, and participate in regular IEP meetings
