Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Tax Manager to lead tax compliance, planning, and advisory services across a diverse client portfolio. The role combines technical tax expertise, team leadership, and client relationship management to deliver accurate, timely, and strategic tax solutions. The ideal candidate will be a licensed CPA with deep experience in federal and state tax matters and familiarity with real estate, construction, professional services, and pass-through entities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage end-to-end tax compliance for corporate, partnership, S-corporation, and individual clients, ensuring accuracy and timely filing of federal, state, and local returns.
- Provide strategic tax planning and consulting to minimize tax liabilities and support client business objectives, including entity selection, restructuring, and transaction planning.
- Oversee and mentor a team of tax professionals: assign work, review deliverables, provide coaching, and support professional development.
- Coordinate and manage complex tax projects, including M&A due diligence, consolidations, state and local tax issues, and multi-state filings.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships by proactively identifying tax risks and opportunities, communicating tax positions clearly, and delivering high-quality service.
- Review technical tax research and prepare tax opinions, position papers, and supporting documentation for tax positions and audits.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (audit, advisory, and client accounting) to deliver integrated client solutions and ensure consistency across engagements.
- Stay current on tax laws, regulations, and industry developments; lead training sessions and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and quality.
- Assist with business development activities, including proposal preparation, client presentations, and supporting new engagement opportunities.
Qualifications
- Active CPA license required.
- Minimum 8+ years of progressive public accounting or industry tax experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
- Demonstrated experience with tax compliance and planning for partnerships, S-corporations, and individuals.
- Experience working with clients in real estate and construction industries; professional services experience strongly preferred.
- Strong technical knowledge of federal, state, and local tax law, including multi-state issues and credits.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills with a track record of coaching and developing staff.
- Advanced tax research and writing skills; ability to build defensible tax positions and support audit defense.
- Proficiency with tax software (e.g., GoSystem, UltraTax, CCH Axcess) and Microsoft Excel; experience with tax provision and workflow tools a plus.
- Outstanding client-facing communication and presentation skills; ability to explain complex tax matters in business terms.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
