Salary Range: Based on education

  • Less than Bachelor's degree: $13.00 per hour 
  • Bachelor's degree or higher: $15.00 per hour

Standard Hours: up to 20

Work Location: Hybrid

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

College: Bluegrass Community & Technical College

Campus Location: Bluegrass C&TC - Newtown Pike

Department: Engagement and Student Success

Job Summary

Tutors work on various BCTC campuses and online within specific subject areas to facilitate learning among students. This allows students to meet face-to-face or virtually with a tutor in order to foster understanding within a given subject area as well as provide support in general college skills (time management, study skills, etc.).
Open to the following campuses:
Lexington - Newtown
Lexington - Leestown
Danville
Lawrenceburg
Winchester
Georgetown
Tutors should be available during set office hours, which are determined collaboratively by the Tutor, Area Tutoring Coordinator, and the Tutoring Coordinator.

Job Duties:

  1. Establish rapport with students who utilize Tutoring Services.
  2. Work according to Area Tutor Coordinator and Tutoring Coordinator guidance to provide support for students. Examples include:
    1. Help facilitate small group exercises or discussions such as peer review.
    2. Demonstrating a concept to a student or group of students.
    3. Assist students in learning how to effectively utilize technology such as MS Word, Blackboard, and library databases.
    4. Assist students with accessing or providing referrals to other resources they may need (Counseling, Accessibility Services, Student Engagement, etc.).
  3. Schedule and facilitate tutoring sessions with students who require additional support.
  4. Complete annual training.
  5. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Successful completion of the course you wish to tutor in or equivalent with a grade of A, or a faculty recommendation letter.
  • 3.0 College GPA or letter of recommendation from an instructor. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous tutoring experience
  • Flexible in the assistance they provide to students
  • Preference given to current BCTC students as well as those with a teacher recommendation
  • Skilled in interpersonal communication and a good understanding of conversational nuances
  • Ability to navigate online platforms to facilitate virtual tutoring
  • Able to tutor in multiple subjects
