Job description

Overview

Collins Aerospace, an RTX company, develops technologies that support critical aerospace and defense missions. We are seeking a Senior Principal Software Engineer to deliver innovative software solutions in areas that may include secure communications, mission systems, cybersecurity, autonomous systems, embedded software, software modernization, DevSecOps, and other advanced aerospace and defense solutions. The position may be located onsite in Cedar Rapids IA, Fort Wayne IN, Richardson TX, or Largo FL.

Responsibilities
  • Lead software engineering activities throughout the software lifecycle, including requirements analysis, architecture, design, development, integration, testing, deployment, modernization, sustainment, and related engineering efforts.
  • Develop, implement, and enhance software solutions, technologies, products, systems, processes, standards, and/or capabilities across a variety of mission areas.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, customers, stakeholders, vendors, and engineering disciplines to define requirements, solve technical challenges, and deliver missionโ€‘critical capabilities.
  • Apply expert technical knowledge and domain expertise to solve highly complex challenges and deliver innovative software solutions that support customer and business objectives.
  • Support the development of scalable, maintainable, reusable, and/or secure software solutions that meet program, customer, and operational requirements.
  • Drive system integration, verification, validation, troubleshooting, test, deployment, and/or operational support activities to ensure highโ€‘quality software performance, functionality, and reliability.
  • Influence technical direction, engineering strategies, software architectures, and program outcomes through deep software engineering expertise.
  • Communicate technical concepts, recommendations, risks, and program status to audiences ranging from engineering teams to customers and executive leadership.
  • Lead significant technical efforts, initiatives, and/or projects while serving as a subject matter expert and technical authority within a discipline.
Qualifications โ€“ Must Have
  • Experience developing software applications, systems, or solutions using programming languages such as C/C++, Java, or similar languages.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • A degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field with a minimum of 7 years of experience.
Qualifications โ€“ Preferred
  • Active and transferable Secret or Top Secret U.S. governmentโ€‘issued security clearance.
  • Experience developing, integrating, testing, deploying, sustaining, and/or supporting softwareโ€‘based products, systems, platforms, and/or capabilities.
  • Experience with Linux, embedded software, realโ€‘time operating systems, DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines, Agile development methodologies (such as Scrum or SAFe), automated testing frameworks, and related software development environments.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, secure software development practices, software assurance methodologies, requirements analysis and decomposition, systems integration, verification and validation, and related engineering disciplines.
  • Experience with Modelโ€‘Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), UML, SysML, software architecture and design, requirementsโ€‘driven development methodologies, and related systems engineering practices.
  • Experience supporting missionโ€‘critical, safetyโ€‘critical, and/or regulated software development environments (for example, DOโ€‘178 or similar standards).
