Virtual Reality Simulation Nursing information

What is virtual reality simulation nursing?

Virtual reality simulation nursing refers to the use of immersive VR technology to replicate clinical scenarios for nursing education and training. These simulations allow nursing students and professionals to practice patient care, decision-making, and clinical skills in a safe, controlled, and realistic environment. This innovative approach helps improve critical thinking, confidence, and preparedness for real-life situations, without risk to actual patients. VR simulation is increasingly used in nursing schools and healthcare facilities to supplement traditional hands-on training.

How does a virtual reality simulation nurse typically collaborate with educators and healthcare professionals to design simulation scenarios?

In a Virtual Reality Simulation Nursing role, professionals frequently work closely with nurse educators, clinical subject matter experts, and instructional designers to create realistic and educational simulation scenarios. Collaboration often involves regular meetings to discuss learning objectives, reviewing clinical guidelines, and ensuring that scenarios accurately reflect real-world patient care situations. This teamwork ensures that simulations are both technically sound and pedagogically effective, enabling nursing students or staff to practice their skills in a safe, controlled environment. The role requires strong communication skills and a willingness to incorporate feedback from various healthcare stakeholders.

What is the difference between Virtual Reality Simulation Nursing vs Clinical Nurse Educator?

Common Search/ComparisonYesYes

Virtual Reality Simulation Nursing focuses on using VR technology to train nurses in realistic scenarios, often within simulation labs. Clinical Nurse Educators develop and deliver nursing education programs, including simulation-based training, in clinical or academic settings. While both roles involve nursing education and require RN licensure, VR Simulation Nursing emphasizes technology-driven training, whereas Clinical Nurse Educators focus on broader educational responsibilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a virtual reality simulation nurse, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Virtual Reality Simulation Nurse, you need a solid clinical nursing background, experience in simulation-based education, and typically a BSN or higher. Familiarity with virtual reality platforms, simulation software (such as Laerdal or CAE), and instructional design certifications is highly valuable. Strong communication, adaptability, and problem-solving skills help you effectively facilitate learning and respond to dynamic simulation scenarios. These skills ensure accurate, engaging, and educationally sound experiences that enhance nursing competency and patient care outcomes.

Job description

Model and Simulation Software Engineer
The Opportunity:
You will play a critical role in advancing our Modeling and Simulation (M&S) capabilities by designing, developing, and integrating AI-enabled models that support complex wargaming and operational decision-making for the DoW. Using core software engineering principles, you'll build scalable simulation components, create realistic behavioral and environmental models, and integrate diverse data sources to drive high-fidelity outcomes. You'll collaborate closely with analysts, domain experts, and other engineers to ensure that models accurately represent real-world conditions and evolving mission needs.
As part of this effort, you'll apply full-stack engineering skills to shape the technical vision for next-generation M&S systems by evaluating new frameworks, enhancing simulation performance, and implementing architectures that support future extensibility. Your contributions will directly influence how clients explore scenarios, assess alternatives, and derive insights from complex simulation environments.
Join us. The world can't wait.
You Have:
  • Experience with developing software in Java, C++, C, or C#
  • Experience with version control, documentation practices, and GitLab workflows
  • Experience working in Linux environments
  • Knowledge of the Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS) networking protocol
  • Knowledge of COTS and GOTS Modeling & Simulation (M&S) and data tools, such as Modern Air Combat Environment (MACE), Mission Object Configuration Tool (MOCT), Virtual Reality Scene Generator (VRSG), and various Image Generators (IG) for data transformation, configuration, and standardization
  • Knowledge of combat weapons systems including aircraft, ground-based radars, and surface-to-air systems
  • Ability to write clean, efficient source code for new applications and enhance existing codebases
  • Ability to support the evaluation, selection, and integration of M&S tools
  • TS/SCI clearance
  • HS diploma or GED

Nice If You Have:
  • Experience developing AFSIM scripts to tailor model behaviors and scenario configurations
  • Experience with TAK products
  • Experience working within the SOF communities
  • Experience building and managing containers
  • Experience building DevSecOps environments or pipelines
  • Knowledge of scenario development and analytical assessments of combat weapon systems using Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) simulation tools
  • Ability to distill, summarize, and communicate complex technical insights related to model library management and dissemination

Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; TS/SCI clearance is required.
