Job description

We are hiring a Subject Matter Expert for real-time broadcast productions. The role would be responsible both for executing, planning and project managing the creation of real-time graphic solutions across broadcast news, weather, and elections with a focus on Virtual Production. The role would involve working with the Creative Services, Editorial, and Engineering teams to generate consistently excellent productions using cuttingโ€‘edge technologies. The role will help guide CBS NEWS AND STATIONS into using new technologies that leapfrog the market while upholding traditional broadcast and editorial workflow quality. Additionally, the role would require knowledge and handsโ€‘on skills to deploy a full technology stack for virtual production in a broadcast environment including 3D asset construction; realโ€‘time graphic optimizations in Unreal Engine and Cinema 4D; camera tracking protocols; newsroom control systems; inโ€‘house data systems; and broadcast protocol integrations for MOS, GPIO, CII templated workflows.

This position has the opportunity to work fully remote.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and inspire a Creative Virtual Production team to conceptualize and execute imaginative deployments across diverse broadcast news studios and environments, pushing the boundaries of design.
  • Spearhead the creative direction of special event productions, infusing them with innovative design elements.
  • Collaborate closely with the Creative Director to ideate and communicate cuttingโ€‘edge virtual production workflows, enhancing the overall design narrative.
  • Forge partnerships with technical and editorial teams to envision and realize novel paradigms leveraging Virtual Production as a dynamic tool for immersive visual storytelling.
  • Cultivate relationships with thirdโ€‘party vendors, fostering a collaborative ecosystem of creative innovation.
  • Conduct regular and engaging training sessions to ensure staff proficiency in realโ€‘time graphic production workflows and progressive methodologies emphasizing designโ€‘centric approaches.
  • Collaborate with engineering departments to translate creative concepts into technical diagrams, supporting technical lead on software and hardware configurations for optimal design implementation.
  • Craft comprehensive best practice guides and maintenance documentation that elevate the creative standards of the team.
  • Foster open communication channels across editorial, engineering, and creative services teams, facilitating seamless collaboration and synergy.
  • Demonstrate discerning judgment to navigate critical situations, leading the team towards innovative solutions that align with the overarching design vision.
  • Embark onโ€‘site travel for immersive creative training, seamless implementations, change management initiatives, and bespoke production services.
  • Offer adept troubleshooting support for creative and systemic challenges that may arise during intricate project deployments, leveraging a designโ€‘focused lens to resolve issues creatively.
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 5+ years experience either in Virtual Production operational capacity or equal.
  • Technical Support/Product Specialist skills.
  • A minimum of 5+ years experience in realโ€‘time Sports or News broadcast productions.
  • Deep Knowledge of VP/MR production.
  • Expert knowledge of camera tracking and video engineering (SDI and video over IP workflows).
  • Knowledge of computer technologies (Hardware/OS), Studio lighting, Unreal Engine and networking.
  • You must be able to work to tight deadlines.
  • Experience in conducting Operational/technical training/Demonstrations; oneโ€‘onโ€‘one or in small groups.
  • Experience using MAM, AWS, Azure Cloud, Realโ€‘Time Graphics Engines, Linux, Windows 10 and Windows Server platforms.
  • Excellent problemโ€‘solving and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to work within strict timelines in an organized manner.
  • Familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite, 3D modeling platforms, Substance 3D, ZBrush and any other design platforms.
