Embark on a journey of innovation with BAE Systems' Platform Engineering (PE) group that manages an on-premises Virtual Cloud Computing Center (VC3). PE is seeking a Platform Portfolio Manager to lead engineering efforts for PE projects ensuring solutions meet internal tenant technical, schedule and budget requirements. This role will provide technical leadership to cross-functional teams and serve as the primary point of contact for internal tenants and senior leadership. You will translate business needs into actionable engineering plans, maintain transparency through dashboards and metrics, and ensure the platform meets defined service levels, DoD/BAE compliance standards, and customer expectations. As a candidate, you will have experience in the successful execution of large projects or full-scale programs, demonstrated risk assessment skills, outstanding leadership, and strong decision making and analysis skills.
Specific job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Partner with the Platform Engineering Director, Deputy Director, Platform Engineering Managers, and Chief Engineer and functional staff to execute projects, deploy capabilities and sustain the platform engineering environments that meet our tenant needs
  • Identify and communicate technical risks and opportunities between the design team, Chief Engineer and platform engineering management team
  • Collaborate with disciplines, functions and business areas across the ES sector and BAE systems to effectively support engineering across the enterprise
  • Meet cost, schedule and technical performance for projects through their life cycle
  • Serve as overall customer (internal tenant) engineering point of contact for the project
  • Identify and support the development of critical skills and resources
  • Develop and maintain measures related to engineering performance
  • Ensure proper application of process based on the size and complexity of the project
  • Establish goals, performance standards, budgets and staffing plans
  • Improve processes and skills that accelerate program execution and improve quality.
  • Lead and develop others
  • Manage a group of DevOps engineers, providing technical mentoring, career guidance, and performance feedback
  • Support recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of new team members to meet business needs

Required Skills and Education
  • Hold a current/active Secret security clearance
  • Bachelor's Degree and 10 years work experience, or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, lead, and motivate technical teams
  • Experience leading or collaborating with cross-site, cross-functional teams
  • Experience leading diverse multi-disciplinary teams in the solution of complex technical problems
  • Strong team building skills that enable collaboration and coordination within and across teams, functions, and other business units
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate with team members, stakeholders and leaders
  • Experience leading technical presentations and troubleshooting sessions
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple complex projects and timelines
  • Ability to brief complex information to senior leaders and stakeholders
  • Background in project engineering management including organizational design, planning, estimating, design management, and product verification

Preferred Skills and Education
  • Experience developing and delivering within a digital engineering ecosystem.
  • Experience with DevOps, DevSecOps, Software Management, Site Reliability Engineering Kubernetes or similar domain
  • Strong background in systems engineering and requirements management
