What is a virtual physicist?

A Virtual Physicist is a professional who uses digital tools, simulations, and remote collaboration to conduct research, analyze data, and solve physics-related problems. They often work online, utilizing software and virtual laboratories to model physical phenomena, interpret results, and support academic or industrial projects. Virtual Physicists can collaborate with teams around the world, making physics expertise more accessible across various industries, including education, engineering, and scientific research.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a virtual physicist?

To thrive as a Virtual Physicist, you need a strong background in physics, applied mathematics, and computational modeling, typically supported by at least a master's or doctoral degree in physics or a related field. Proficiency with simulation software (such as COMSOL Multiphysics or MATLAB), programming languages (like Python or C++), and familiarity with remote collaboration tools is essential. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication, and self-motivation are standout soft skills in this role. These competencies are crucial for conducting complex analyses, collaborating remotely with teams, and delivering impactful research or consulting outcomes in a virtual environment.

What are some common challenges faced by virtual physicists when collaborating remotely with multidisciplinary teams?

Virtual Physicists often work with engineers, data scientists, and software developers across different locations, which can present challenges in communication and coordination. Navigating time zone differences, ensuring clear documentation of complex models, and integrating physics simulations with software platforms require strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Proactively using collaboration tools and maintaining regular check-ins can help overcome these challenges and ensure smooth project progress.

We empower exceptional talents in Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science to seek scientific boundaries, push through them, and apply cutting edge research to global financial markets. Our culture is unique. Constant innovation requires fearlessness, creativity, intellectual honesty, and a relentless competitive streak. We believe in winning together and unlocking unique individual talent by incenting collaboration and mutual respect. At Jump, research outcomes drive more than superior risk adjusted returns. We design, develop, and deploy technologies that change our world, fund start-ups across industries, and partner with leading global research organizations and universities to solve problems.
We are seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented professional to join our People Ops Team as a Leadership & Professional Development Coordinator. You will coordinate and deliver world-class learning experiences for Jump employees while driving operational excellence through process improvements and AI-enabled efficiency. Coordinate learning programs end-to-end:
  • Manage firmwide onboarding programs, leadership and professional development programs, and technical training coordination, including scheduling, participant communications, materials preparation, venue management, and completion tracking across regions.
  • Leverage the firm's Learning Management System (LMS) to streamline enrollment, rosters, reporting, and the overall learner experience.
  • Lead global vendor management and budget tracking, including contracts, invoices, and spend monitoring.
  • Support EMEA program coordination remotely, partnering with regional stakeholders across time zones.

Partner with stakeholders:
  • Collaborate with internal teams (HRBPs, business leads) and external vendors (coaches, facilitators) to ensure high-quality learning outcomes.
  • Support the Speaker Series program, including scheduling guest speakers, managing logistics, and ensuring seamless execution.
  • Serve as the point of contact during live, virtual, and hybrid programs, troubleshooting in real-time.

Drive efficiency and continuous improvement:
  • Identify and implement process improvements, including streamlining workflows, automating tasks, and creating reusable templates that reduce manual effort.
  • Leverage AI tools (Claude, Cowork) to accelerate operations, including content curation, communications, data analysis, and workflow automation.
  • Own the program feedback process to identify trends, areas of success, and areas of opportunity for future initiatives.
  • Create and maintain L&D governance frameworks, documentation, and reporting on internal platforms (Confluence), establishing quality standards and on-going review practices.
  • Other duties as assigned or needed.

Skills You'll Need:
  • 3-5+ years of experience in program/project coordination, L&D operations, HR, or similar fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proven attention to detail with a focus on quality; reviews own work for accuracy, considers potential gaps, and balances speed with thoroughness.
  • Business-oriented mindset with the ability to connect operational work to broader outcomes (employee experience, program effectiveness, talent retention).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication across all levels and functions.
  • Strong analytical skills and comfort with data interpretation.
  • Collaborative yet accountable; thinks strategically when executing details.
  • Experience with a Learning Management System (LMS) preferred; comfort using AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot) a plus.
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent relevant and practical experience.
  • Reliable and predictable availability.
