About this Role

The Curriculum Developer will design training solutions and curriculum for our 80,000 Ace retail associates.  They will consult and create behavioral-based curriculum with stakeholders throughout the organization with key areas of support including Merchandising, Store Systems and Operations and Business to Business. 

As part of the retail training team the Curriculum Developer will design and create curriculum in various modalities that aligns across the Ace organization and results in learning objectives that drive high performance, continuous development and support our retailers in delivering the Ace Helpful Promise.

The Curriculum Developer will define learning objectives, design comprehensive training solutions, identify gaps, evaluate and maintain curriculum. Demonstrate outstanding skills in project and time management.


This position will require advanced knowledge and application of instructional design, curriculum development practices and project management to ensure Ace Hardware remains the training and performance development leader across the retail industry.

What You'll Do

  • Develop curriculum solutions that align with organizational strategies and drive learner performance.
  • Consult with strategic business partners to ensure training solutions align with the needs of the business and learner.
  • Work with development vendors to ensure training solutions are completed on time and within budget.
  • Deliver training virtually to retailers to grow their product knowledge and leadership skills.
  • Own and maintain multiple curriculum projects, each with their own project plan with curriculum developers, deliverables, milestones and due dates.
  • Maintain and update curriculum content for instructor-led courses to achieve 100% alignment to Higher Ground.
  • Design/deliver instructor-led courses, electronic training sessions and curriculum presentations as assigned/needed.
  • Ensure curriculum assessment practices are varied and reflect current industry best practices.
  • Leverage rapid development tools to meet stakeholder and learner needs when speed-to-market is the priority.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Curriculum, Learning & Development or related field
  • 4-8 years of curriculum development experience, retail industry experience a plus
  • Proficient in instructional design and curriculum development processes
  • Virtual training content development experience
  • Demonstrated facilitation skills
  • Micro learning development experience preferred
  • Knowledgeable in sound assessment practices included performance-based assessment, job-embedded assessment, e-Learning assessment theory and formative/summative assessment theory
  • Participatory and distributed leadership style that builds strength, collective wisdom and servant-first principles when working across all stakeholder groups
  • Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communications skills with retailers, vendor partners, field staff, and Corporate
  • Ability to develop and deliver instructor-led training, both in-person and virtual
  • Ability to effectively communicate project priorities and develop multiple curriculum projects simultaneously
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills that demonstrate an ability to apply logical thinking to gather and analyze information, design and test solutions to problems, formulate plans and meet deadlines
  • Excellent software skills including e-learning technologies including Articulate, Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook, online meeting/training software including Zoom and Microsoft Teams
  • Travel: Up to 15%
