Job description


Works under the supervision of the Director and/or Manager. Operates and maintains high pressure boilers, large tonnage A/C equipment, auxiliary power plant equipment, air compressors, pumps, cooling towers, fans and associated equipment. Maintains a daily log of all operating equipment and medical gases. Operates emergency generators.
Responsibilities
  • Plan ahead for maintenance and repair of equipment. Ensure boilers are operating at correct pressure and steam flow, chiller at correct temperature and pressure, and maintaining logs.
  • Test and treat boiler feed water, cooling tower-condensing water and closed loop chilled water systems.
  • Isolate, trouble shoot and repair: pumps, steam turbines, fans, piping, valves, electro-pneumatic valves, motors, motor controllers, generators, diesel engines, HVAC systems, large tonnage chillers and all associated equipment.
  • Read gauge and log medical gas system pressure.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education
  • H.S. Diploma - Required

Work Experience
  • 3 Years - Verifiable experience operating high pressure boilers and chillers of 100 ton or more - Required

Licenses and Certifications
  • 1st Class High Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer - Required within 1 1/2 Yrs
  • 1st Class Refrigeration Plant Operator License - Licensed from the City of St. Joseph MO - Required within 1 1/2 Yrs Or
  • 2nd Class Refrigeration Plant Operator License - Licensed from the City of St. Joseph MO - Required within 1 1/2 Yrs
  • EPA CFC - Refrigeration - Approved EPA CFC Certification is obtainable within 18 months - Required within 1 1/2 Yrs
  • Driver's License - Valid In State - Required within 90 Days
  • Driver's License - Valid In State - Missouri Class E Drivers License - Preferred Upon Hire

Travel Requirements
  • Must be able to travel between various system facilities and off-site locations as needed. - Required

Skills and Abilities
Essential Technical/Motor Skills
  • Answer phone, adjust pneumatic controls of high pressure boilers and chillers, chemical meter test, use all hand and electrical tools, weld, cut, set equipment to close tolerance

Interpersonal Skills
  • Express ideas and thoughts, and electrical thinking ability.

Essential Physical Requirements
  • Plan events for daily PM's and repairs, take hourly readings, test and treat water in open and close systems, work on power plant equipment, repair pipe leaks, repair boilers, HVAC, chillers, motors, pumps, generators, operate high pressure boilers and large tonnage chillers and associated equipment, climbing ladders.

Essential Mental Abilities
  • Ability to read and understand technical documents and instructions.
  • Log equipment readings, transfer readings to numbers, follow equipment guidelines and operating instructions, mix and add chemicals, know equipment readings, limits and ranges, phone calls.

Essential Sensory Requirements
  • Read gauges, meters, water levels, blueprints, log; detect fire alarms, phones, equipment operations, verbal requests, tell if equipment is hot or cold; sense fire, detect wire color, resistors colors, etc.

Exposure to Hazards
  • Noise, chemicals, high-pressure steam, high voltage, explosive gases, heights to 25 ft.
