Job description

Job Summary

To assist the classroom teacher in achieving teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
  • Assists teachers in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
  • Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies and field trips.
  • Provides assistance and monitors progress of students receiving services.
  • Provides accommodations for students based on their IEPs.
  • Communicates with the general education teacher on any issues or special information about an individual student.
  • Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
  • Primary responsibility is to provide assistance to students receiving virtual Speech and Language services, but will also assist in other classrooms as needed/directed.
  • Perform other duties as requested by the Teacher of Record.

Qualifications Requirements:

  • 2 years of college experience; or associates degree; or 
  • Paraprofessional Certificate
  • Completed 48 credit hours of college level classes
  • Experience with Special Education Instruction, preferred
