General Function: A Labor and Delivery (L&D) Nurse is a specialized registered nurse who provides care and support to women during childbirth, including the antepartum (before delivery), intrapartum (during delivery), and postpartum (after delivery) stages. L&D nurses play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of both mother and baby. Below are the job description and duties of a Labor and Delivery Nurse
A. Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Monitor Health: Track maternal and fetal vital signs, labor progress, and address any complications.
  • Educate and Support: Guide and comfort patients through labor, delivery, and postpartum care.
  • Assist in Delivery: Prepare rooms, support delivery procedures, and manage tasks like IVs and medications.
  • Administer Medications: Provide pain relief and manage complications under physician guidance.
  • Postpartum Care: Oversee recovery, support breastfeeding, and provide newborn care.
  • Document Care: Record all care activities and communicate with the healthcare team.
  • Emergency Response: Handle emergencies such as fetal distress and perform resuscitation.
  • Collaboration: Work with a multidisciplinary team and ensure effective communication with patients and families.

B. Skills and Qualifications
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
